I have a problem and I think the people at this forum are knowledgeable to help me. I tried looking to see where I can post my problem and hopefully find some answers. Where can I post my issue?

I'm a newbie, so constructive criticism is good, but please don't just call me stupid for making mistakes.

Just in case it matters, here's my problem. I just bought a 8800GT and it worked fine for a day. I was messing around with evga precision. I mainly wanted to adjust my fan speed because it felt like my computer was warmer than usual. I was messing around with the settings and I experimented with overclock. I googled, and most people were able to overclock it pretty high, so I went a bit conservative and went from 650MHz Core clock to 700MHz, and mem clock from 900MHz to 975MHz. I had the fan running at 50% (30% before).

Then I tried loading Minecraft (a 3d game) to see if I can notice a difference in performance (there wasn't). A few minutes later, my screen froze and I had to restart. When I restarted, the video card loading screen, bios info loading screen, and windows loading screen have blue squares, green vertical stripes, wavy lines, and pixels. Did my video card die?

I called the retailer, and talked to their tech support, and they told me my power supply could have burned out the card. My power supply is only 300w, but all that my power supply is powering is my single core 2.4GHz cpu/mobo/ram/wifi card/ 160gb sata hd (i disconnected the dvdrw and my 2nd hard drive to make more power available for my vid card).

I think they'll replace it, but I'd rather just fix it right now if I can. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Do you still have the video card you had before the 8800gt to test with by chance?

Edit: If you would go here:

http://www.overclock.net/specs.php?do=addsystem

and fill in your computer specs so we can hopefully better help you.

Welcome! Have a read through the Site Features guide linked in my signature. It should answer most of your questions about the site. As for your issue, it does sound like a video card issue. Posting in the Nvidia graphics card section would yield the best results I would think.

Unfortunately, it sounds like your video card died. However, it is difficult to tell wether the failure was because of overclocking or an undersized power supply. If they replace your card, it would be in your best interest to invest in a larger, quality power supply.

It could be possible it over heated. If you set the fanspeed to 50% and then launched a game, then the card would follow your fanspeed setting. It could be possible that normally the fan would ramp up to a higher percentage under high load.

Yea. I'm a fan of the site. I have to save up some money to get really into it, but for now, I just upgraded my ram to 2GB DDR2 (pc5300) and I upgraded my video card.

I plan on building an 460 GTX SLI on an AMD quad-core 3+ GHz with 4GB DDR3 a small SSD and 2TB sata. It's not the best system in the world, but it's the least expensive way for me to get started.

For now, I'm just trying to upgrade a old emachine that I found laying around, and trying to make it at least somewhat respectable.

Hi, I filled in what I can. I was using the onboard 6150SE. I haven't had a desktop in a while, and I got this eMachine T5062 for free, so I'm upgrading a little for now, and then I'll get a new system later. I upgraded the ram and video card for now.

Yea, I know, compared to everyone else on this site, I'm the uber-newbie system-wise. Big or small, I still have an overclocking heart.

Thank you, I feel very welcomed here.

They gave me a replacement code and I mailed it USPS Priority to them, so hopefully I'll get a new card within 2 weeks (hopefully sooner).

I posted my system specs. Basically, it's a eMachine T5062 (Vista, AMD single core 2.4GHz, upgraded to 2GB DDR2 (I wanted more but my board only has 2 DIMM slots. weak..), 6150SE onboard video.

When I talked to their tech support guy (who too was knowledgeable) he told me that it might be my power supply. I know that PCIe cards generally use a lot of power, but I read that the max on 8800GT is 110W. I also used a PSU Calculator and it said my current usage with the card was 272w, and it's sort of tight, but there is a little breathing room as well. Do you guys know if assuming that the data is correct, am I in the safe zone? http://extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine

Anyways, I do think I need a new power supply. I really wanted to wait until I upgrade to REAL system that is SLId to buy a new power supply, but if I absolutely need a new power supply, then I'll buy one but I don't want to spend too much now, because I'm gonna buy a new one later as well and I don't want to invest in a $60+ power supply quite yet.

Seeing my system specs, is there a maybe 400w with over total 25A on 12v+ rails that you can recommend that is under $25 shipped? I know that's a stretch, but I can try, right?
