~100K PPD System

Thread Starter
With the current chipsets available what would be the best way to obtain a ~100k ppd system.

I have looked at the SR-2 builds and seen some AMD opteron builds but if I wanted to build for no other purpose than to fold what would I be looking at for efficiency.

I am not looking for a budget or a budget build per se but I could probably do 2500 usd into system with some wiggle room to make it happen.

I am not interested at this time of doing a farm/multiple builds to reach 100k.

Yes I can wait for IB or SB and/or associated technology.

A decent 2600k system or two may get you the efficiency and 100k PPD you need, but for expandability, I would go SR-2. You can build an Entry-Model SR-2 with two quad-cores (with HT) and a GTS450 for about $2800 and still have room for a few more cards later. the CPU's alone would gget about 60~80k and then to get to 100k is a few cheap upgrades away.

If you want a price list with links, I can post again later tonight when I get home from work. PM me.

2 2500k systems with a couple 460's in them would be a pretty easy easy way to get 100k+.

What about 2 i7-970 systems? Each 970 OCed gets 50K+.

2x Sandy bridges will be your cheapest / easiest option. And, it'll leave you plenty of room for more gpus.

Looking at the newegg combos

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...Size=10&page=1

for less >= 1K I could do this x2 for 100k

but I do have a 560 ti from MSI sitting around doing next to nothing

I was thinking of putting it in something a bit more classy than the nvida hafx but I love the green case.

So what about doing a just a standard no brainer 2600k build with sli 560s and then throwing a ARES in my sig rig. That would probably make a 100k right? Plus I get the benefit of tri fire and could add eyinfity (sp?)...

not sure how much ppd that 5870 puts out but 2x OC'd 560's and an OC'd 2600k on windows 7 would only put out about 70k

if it HAS to be just one rig, you might as well go big and get an SR2

although personally, i would just build a 2600k farm w/ the upcoming Z68 motherboards (no discrete GPU needed) run linux, ~$650 per box, ~55k ppd each, ~200w each
