~100K PPD System - Page 2

My concern for doing just one rig is making sure it stays up 24/7.

I dont want to have keep up maitenance checking to see if clients are up etc because of windows or someother update.

Which points me to doing a linux type build maybe but never used linux except for once. My thoughts were the cpu wants me to assign what when ***....

it's not much harder maintaining 2-3 rigs as opposed to 1.. you just need to make sure OC is stable then it's pretty much on cruise control... setting up f@h in linux (ubuntu) is cake, there are guides everywhere

if it HAS to be just one rig, you might as well go big and get an SR2

although personally, i would just build a 2600k farm w/ the upcoming Z68 motherboards (no discrete GPU needed) run linux, ~$650 per box, ~55k ppd each, ~200w each
I like this I because I do not need to bother with gpus, have any thoughts for 3 of these?

I am curious as to a custom case or case which could maybe hold 3 to 4 of these type systems with minimal configuaration.

Considering the hours I keep nothing is more annoying than seeing my folding client reset due an update/power etc that I do not catch for a few days.

lol a system like that is well over your budget, i wouldnt take him too seriously, going from his past threads, he's in 7th grade and loves to troll/has no valuable input to any thread

not sure if any case can fit 3 systems inside, i would leave them caseless if you have space/dont mind the mess, otherwise just throw them in some cheap cases like antec 300... you can even hook them up to 1 monitor w/ an hdmi switch.. get a wireless kb/mouse combo and just plug the usb receiver into whichever rig you need to "maintain"

z68 is set to release may 11th.. here's some estimates

2600k ~$300
z68 ~$170
antec 400w ~$40
4gb ram ~ $50 (im not positive, but 2gb might be enough for a dedicated bigadv rig)
hdd ~ $30
cooling ~ $70
= ~$660

so you can easily build a 2600k bigadv rig for <$700

~4.5ghz in linux will net you ~55k ppd, power consumption approx 150w-200w depending on vcore/OC

with a budget of $2500 you can build 3 of these for an easy 150k+ ppd using <600w and still have some cash left over

if sr2 is the way you want to go for the sake of having just 1 rig, here's a good deal

http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?...t=folding+farm

but keep in mind, unless you're going to leave it caseless or do some modding, there's not many cheap options for sr2 cases, here's a list at evga.com
