Can't Install New Motherboard / Mouse Disabled

Thread Starter
Hey I got my memory was unstable so I replaced it along with the motherboard I had just installed in case that was the cause of it.

I installed a new set of the exact same OCZ memory & changed the motherboard back to the Pro Turbo I was using before but for some reason when XP starts my mouse & keyboard do NOT work at all. I am using the Microsoft 6000 v2 for both so they run off a USB 2.4 GHz Jump Drive but even when I try using a P/S 2 mouse it won't work because a install screen comes up wanting me to click on "Continue Anyway" in order to allow the software to install, which I have no way of doing since my mouse won't move

I also tried another motherboard but had the same problem.

I hope someone has an idea because in all my builds & board replacements I've never ran into a situation where you couldn't use a mouse to complete the install of a motherboard. I mean how else are you supposed to load the drivers needed for a mouse without the mouse.

P.S. This also happened when I tried a P/S 2 Keyboard

If you changed the motherboard, thats why you're experiencing that.

IF you can hit safe mode you may be able to uninstall all the drivers from the control panel. . However, chances are its a million times easier (and will work for sure)

Put your Windows disk in and do a repair install. Should clear up your issue

Exactly, I know why it's happening I just never have not been able to use my mouse after installing a new motherboard. I mean obviously you can't install the drivers for the mouse without the mouse.

So that is why I am asking what to do when neither a USB or a P/S 2 mouse will work?

When I boot up in Safe Mode the mouse still doesn't function but even if it did what good would it do to uninstall any drivers when I am actually trying to Install Drivers?

P.S. I already have the Microsoft Mouse & Keyboard Drivers for the 6000 installed on my hard drive.

No one else has ever ran into this before either I guess?

I'm sure I can probably fix it by either doing a Windows Repair or re-installing Windows but that is NOT my preference nor should I have to do that in order for my mouse to work after swapping out motherboards.

I've swapped out motherboards in this same system a number of times & have never come across this problem or needed to do a Windows Repair after changing boards. Normally all I have to is install the boards drivers & reboot a few times, then everything works like a charm, but I have to have the mouse to get started of course.

Now granted sometimes my USB mouse doesn't work & I have to use my P/S 2 until the USB drivers are loaded but I never have had a problem with P/S 2 drivers not being installed to begin with.

Thanks in advance.

You're trying both USB and PS2? Try going into bios and disable both USB and PS2... Then boot to Windows.. Reboot, go into bios and enable them again, then boot to Windows and see if that fixes it..

I was just skimming.

What do you mean you can't install a mouse driver without a mouse?!

All you need is a keyboard. You should be able to navigate a computer without a mouse. Get a PS/2 keyboard and go at it....

I've tried either the USB mouse or the P/S 2 mouse but not both at the same time.

Also the USB & P/S 2 ports both work fine & recognize the devices it's just the drivers that aren't loading on their own.

I've left it sitting for hours & it doesn't do anything.

Besides that the Xp drivers that come up to be installed for the P/S 2 Mouse and/or Keyboard has a button that has to be clicked, "Continue Anyway", which obviously can't be done with a disabled mouse.
