Well, Fable 3's got VERY low system requirements for a port... It may be a port but they just optimizing the code for pc and bam, Rather have that though than a quad core for everything to get fixed 30fps frame rates

why not make it mulit platform then port it to whatever you want using an engine the supports open gl and direct x. I part of an open source project doing just that.

Especially on low graphics.

But Fable comes in the same group as TESV.
Graphics may not come with 2048*2048 textures but it has it's livery instead.
Just look at Portal which STILL runs on the old Source engine but updated slightly yet it delivers graphics that matches that kind of game.

xbox 360 does use DirectX. The difference is that xbox 360 has fixed hardware while PC's have everything from a FX5500 to a HD 6990.

Those games suffer from consolitis, maybe people are getting their definitions wrong but they're definitely on the right track. At the end of the day, gamers are expressing there disappointment in certain games and if devs want to "define" what's a console port or not, gamers are not going to accept the current quality of PC games because they are similar in quality to the console version.

When devs say their game is going to be the same on all platforms but with keyboard and mouse support for the PC, how is that good news? I rather play the game on a $200 console than a $1K+ PC, less bugs and whining.

Because it costs the studio a lot more to do that. The code is not the same for PC as it is for consoles, and to write it entirely one way, and then convert it to another is very wasteful. When you write for multiplatform all at once you save the most money, 80% of the code works on all platforms if you design it right, then you right the other 20% to handle each different platform. Converting from consoles to PC (doing a console port) is just as wasteful as a PC to consoles (PC port), but consoles generally make money for developers, so this still happens. Sometimes it is most economical to wait to see if your game is successful enough to port it to the PC or not.
Whenpeople call Crysis 2 a console port, i don't think they mean port on that way, but a game specifically built for a console audience.

Which is just as bad in my view, since both audiences have different preferences. So they're -in a way- forcing the console preferences on the PC audience.

Crysis might not be a console port in its entirety, BUT it WAS designed around the weakest performing parts of both consoles, and then expanded afterwards to "fill in the extra space" of the more powerful hardware on their respective systems. This is a totally ass-backwards way of making a game and results on poor performance and gimped effects on PCs for the sake of making it easier to code cross-platform with consoles.

So call it what you want, but it still sucks because of consoles.
