That is the issue right there. If all of the new games coming out play the same no matter what platform you are playing on then PC gaming is in trouble.

Why is PC gaming "better"?

1. Better graphics
2. Free online multiplayer
3. Mouse / keyboard
4. Mod support

So if they all the platforms look the same #1 becomes irrelevant. The PS3 and the Wii offer free online multiplayer. So for those platforms they are equal. That leaves us with the control scheme. Depending on the game a gamepad is better then mouse / keyboard. More and more games being released are forgoing development tools for the community to use. (Ex. Crysis 2) If anything the modding community has shrunk over the years. The issue will get even worse when more games are directly developed for the console.

Will PC gaming survive? IMO yes, but it will always be treated as a second thought by the developers. The "real" pc games will be by indie studios, or MMORPG's.

Actually before they made a single change they already screwed it up. They are releasing it so long after it already came out on consoles that nearly everyone who cared will have already bought it.

I predict weak sales.

To the person who are arguing that people don't know what a port is I beg to differ. It is all about the target platform. So even if a game releases on consoles and PC at the same time it can still be a port or feel like a port.

Most games are targeted to run on the console and desinged from the ground up to be played on a console. They do this b/c the bulk of their money is there, the bulk of their control of the content is there, and they know that the PC will easily handle anything designed for the consoles.

Hence the huge number of "ports" or in other words games that have been designed largely for the console market and interface.

If the console port means I can get the same performance as a console on the exactly same PC specs, then I'm for it. However, that means I should get at least 3-4 times more FPS then the console at the same graphics, let alone, at a higher resolution.

Although I'm against consoles in the sense that they have seriously hindered the advancement of gaming technology, I am for the optimization and performance the console platform brings. If they port a console game to the PC, I want the same performance as the console on the same GFLOPS performance as the console. If I have more, then give me more performance.

Most textures, by my understanding, are first created under extremely high res images. It is not hard to give PC platforms higher resolution textures.

However, developing for the PC first allows much better games. And I'm more for better quality games then better optimized games. But that doesn't mean we can deal with both.

I don't really mind if games are a console port so long as its done right but how many console ports are done right, I cant think of a single direct console port that wasn't bad besides Mass Effect 2.
