Antec TP 650 (Spend your money elsewhere)

So a good few weeks ago I purchased a new Antec TP 650 Power supply, which I RMA after it started to squeal after I shut my computer off, it got too annoying and loud.

I got my replacement a week after and installed it again and yet still got the same problem(Squeals like no tomorrow after completely shutting down the computer)

Sent the second one in for RMA to get another one and yet this 3rd one is squealing also_!! Seriously this is annoying_

Total cost of shipping for me to send back to RMA: 42 dollars_
Total cost of Actual Product: 79.99 +21 dollar shipping = 100.99

Total cost of RMA (Shipping it back to them)+Cost of item & First time shipping it to me = 142.99 dollars

I am now sending the third unit back for a complete refund and deciding to purchase a Corsair HX650 instead_

It'll cost me another 21 dollars to ship this Power supply back for my refund!
That will leave me with 63 dollars total in cost of shipping it back !!

WHAT A COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY & TIME, This squealing issue apparently is well known for these Antec units. I suggest you avoid them and purchase something else, so you don't have to go through what I went through.

Newegg is great on RMA's but having to ship the item back to them 2 times and now the third time has become a costly RMA Process_ So not worth it.

They should take care of the shipping if you have to RMA more than once. Charging you for shipping it is bogus.

Thats very unfortunate for you.

I have had TPN 650 and TPN 750 both were fine with no squeling etc at all.
It must just be bad batch or bad luck as they are well know for being a deccent PSU.

Hope you get better luck with the Corsair.

does your mobo draw too much from the 5VSB? Only reason I can think of for a PSU squealing after the computer shuts down.

I am contacting newegg on Monday when they open and hopefully they will pay for the shipping to them this time because if I have to pay for shipping to them again for the third time, it'll cost me a total of 63 dollars!!(21 dollars each time) & the Power supply itself is only 79.99 dollars_ When I think about it, I'm better off living with a squealing power supply_

Its just not worth shipping it back again for a refund. If newegg won't help me out, then I'm going to contact Antec and see what they will do for me, if anything at all =[

Oh yeah, the squealing is horrible, it doesn't get quieter, it seems to raise in pitches! gets real loud here and there then quiets down and gets loud again_ The Power supply can squeal for 24/7 if it wanted to. Worst part, computer isn't even On !

Maybe it's not the power supply. Maybe it's because you're over-stressing your PSU. The article below suggests that you use a 700W PSU or greater. My setup causes my PSU to squeal when using prime95 =(

You know I thought it was that problem too, so I took out one of the Videocards but the problem still persists so Its forsure not a overstressed PSU issue.

The HX650 stands an equal chance of squealing. This is happening to several manufacturers, including SeaSonic, who manufacture both the TP-650 and the HX650.

It can be fixed, if you don't mind voiding your warranty.
