I'm only asking because I'll be using my GD70 for this, and the VRM have been know to fail when OCing there x6's. So I'm a little worried that mine might die too, but I guess if it dies that just means it's time for me to upgrade.

AMD is more fun

I better get a DDR2 board quick, I've got 6 sticks of DDR2 to bin

Haha I started with amd...I'm only here on the Intel side because bassplayer and I did a trade...he got my 955 (the one pizzaman killed ) CH4F, and SS phase ... and I got his w3520 and R3E.

Funny you say that though, I have these 2x1gb OCZ Gold DDR2 667 4-4-4-12 sticks here...and I have an M4N78 Pro in the closet that I could get my friends Athlon x2 64 3700 (I think) ... orr if I wanted to get sketchy I could get my M4A79T + 965 from my dad and use my Mushkin sticks.

Too much work I think, it's been so long I almost forgot how to OC AMD lol.

Arg, none of my pictures even came out good

This is all I got for today, and I'm pretty sure I ran 32m less than 10 times...I spent most of the time tinkering around which sucked. Efficiency sucked compared to my runs on water. I had about ~10lb's of DICE.

Oh well, hopefully next time everything will go smoother from the start

Looking good Flow3n! Next run around those same clocks try using more Vtt and up the uncore multi to x17-20 instead of x16

Haha, yes I could do if you wanna see it again!

Not sure I can on X58, but probably as I think the memory on X58 before was the only thing holding me back - before I hit 3Ghz. On P55 and X58 memory would die at around 2700 or so, until I froze it and then it went way up, so I think I could probably do 3Ghz on X58 now too, but I doubt bandwidth would be ideal for this kind of competition.

I know, you were probably joking anyway, just sayin

I had VTT up to 1.55, vcore around 1.62-1.65, vdimm around 1.79, CPU PLL 1.65 and 1.8 and pretty much left it all there as I tried to match clocks to what those volts would allow...

Overall I had a really difficult time actually getting things going, I spent a lott of time figuring out no posts, freezing in windows from bumps, a lot of time clearing CMOS to start over again... and not so much time benching.

I think I've figured out the DICE routine a little better now, although I still feel like I went through it pretty fast... so hopefully tomorrow if I can get more DICE I will be able to jump right onto getting high clocks stable instead of messing with 10 things at once.

For you guys, where do you normally start when going cold? Do you start with a "blank" BIOS slate and just jump to what you think will work? Or do you load up a saved setting from a previously known stable (on water or air) setup, and then go from there? I was kinda doing both, loaded up where I left off with water two weeks ago...and started from scratch but basically just put it back to where I left off.
Not sure if I should be doing the classic-bump bclk till crash-bump volts-bump bclk until crash again-bump volts etc until I get where I want. Seems like I might get better clocks, just take wayy longer.

lsd I'd be really interested in seeing what 3ghz does for these benches.

Sandra would be interesting for sure

@fl0w3n, just start off like you've never OC'd in your life Try each setting out, each combo, much more likely to find you issue than entering what you THINK will work.

Vtt 1.5-1.6 should get you 4-4.4Ghz uncore easy, that's why I mentioned using x17-290 multi for the uncore

Ya, I load optimized, reboot and then start plugging in high clocks and voltages, then go from there sometimes in the BIOS and other times in windows - just depends on what I'm doing.

Honestly I have a clock range for everything in mind as a high starting point, set it and pick some voltages, then adjust until I've got that going, then push hard on voltages and speeds soon after that.

I'm going to freeze memory this weekend, just not sure which set yet though (998679 or 998966 BBSE/PSC) but whichever I do I'll see about 3Ghz and then Sandra on it

Yeah...do it lsd!!

Okay, that's what I was thinking. Today was too hectic, hopefully next run will be better while trying that.

lol, my main rig is what I'm benching with...it's sitting here still looking tired from today. I'm running an Athlon 65 3700+ in a A8N-SLI with 2x512 sticks until I get my main rig back up. I'll grab it now haha

Yeah I didn't think of trying different uncore mutlis, I was having too many issues.

I think you have the advantage of knowing what your system likes/wants at these temps. I'm only used to water.

lol this system took so long to submit my post that I missed your response and had to edit

I usually start with something I know will boot. For the W3520 I think I would usually boot around 245 BCLK.
