Halp with my SR-2

Thread Starter
Hey all,

I've built a SR-2 with 24GB (12 x 2GB) of Mushkin 1600Mhz RAM sticks and for some reason it only shows up as between 4GB and 20GB within windows (system, BIOS, POST etc) but when i open CPU-Z it says 24576MB of RAM installed and was just wondering if anybody else is having an issue like this and knows how to fix it, im pretty sure i installed BIOS A50(latest).

Also i was able to OC it to 4.5Ghz before but now its getting lower and lower how far i can OC it, currently it resides at 3.1Ghz or it wont boot which is not much higher than its 2.67Ghz stock

GTX260+
Dual X5650's
Liquid Cooled
256GB C300 Crucial SSD using SATA3
Windows 7 Ultimate X64

Bit of background into my system, please don't ask why i need 24GBs of RAM, the thing is i payed for it and would like to have it to use.

THanks in advance
Peter.

wonder if this is similar to the missing ram issues that some people... well many people had with the X58 boards when they first came out. id try increasing your CPU VTT and DRAM voltage a bit. just remember Dram V cant go over 1.65v

try to even out the pressure on the CPUs themselves. many times these problems are caused by too much or not enough or uneven pressure.

You honestly might have to increase your QPi voltage more. You can try different slots too

is there anybody with an SR-2 on this site thats had memory issues like what i described and could help me with an explanation of how you fixed the issue

I've never had an sr-2 board (heh I wish) but I have had similat problem when I had 12 GB ram (1866 dominators) on my classified. It was showing like 8 usable (if I remember correctly) but cpuid and bios splash screen showed all 12. Turned out I had a bad stick (or 2 I forget it was awhile ago) I rma'd one set of the ram (6 GB) and recieved some 2000 from corsair. I decided to keep the 2000 and sold the other set and have had no problems since.

Could be one or more of your ram sticks are no good. Also sometimes ram sets sometimes dont like to play nice with eachother and I'm assuming that you didn't buy a 24 GB kit.

Sorry to suggest this but I think you should test your ram using memtest and if it comes back with any errors, then you will have to test individually to find out which one/ones is/are bad.

I hope you get this sorted as I know what it feels like to invest a nice bit of change into something and then not have it perform as it should. Good luck!

EDI is probably messing with you. Legion's been giving her ideas, you should look into that before they vent the airlocks.

i did memtest but it could only see what BIOS and windows sees also, the working ram works 100% but i just dont wanna go buy more ram without knowing for sure i tested them seperately on another machine and all but 6GB wouldent let the machine boot but that does not explain how i have 10GB working right now
