Best air cooler for graphics heavy over-clocked i5-2500K? - Page 2

The Silver Arrow only performs better than the Noctua at lower overclocks. At 5ghz, the Noctua will probably keep the temperatures slightly lower than the Arrow.

^ is correct. Get d-14 as it out performs ANY hybrid water system(H50/60/70).

If you want to go hybridwater cooling, go for the H70 with 2 spiffy fans in push pull on the rad.

Silver Arrow
I have the Cogage Arrow (same sink without the fans) and 3 Gentletyphoon AP15's on it
Keeps my 970 nice and cool at 28C idle and 60C load with a modest 4.0 OC.
Ambient Temp in the room is about 65F

More than just fans seperate the cogage Arrow from the Silver Arrow. The fins on the Silver Arrow are not strait, but are angled up and down on each of the towers, and on the side's the fin's are smashed down to seal them up kind of.

If they where they same, I wouldn't have spent the money on the Silver Arrow, just to swap out the fans

Great results BTW, Cogage Arrow is a great performer

I have the silver arrow and am very satisfied with it. Its within 2 degrees of a nd-14 depending on the test so basically the same. Either is a good choice. I went with the SA and a pwm splitter cause the ty-140 fans from thermalright are some of the best/quietest fans on the market.

so you cant go wrong with a SA, ND14 or an archon. all 3 are more or less the same in terms of performance

It depends a bit on how much space you have in your case.
The NH-D14 is huge but good. The C14 is a bit smaller and good.
The Silver Arrow is ?
From hardware-revolution:

Quote:
Although the Silver Arrow handles even large overclocks like a champ, expect for it to fall behind the Noctua and fail in only the most extreme cases"
And of course the nearly legendary:
If money doesn`t matter get one of these: Prometeia Mach2 GT

oh i just gave a general comparison, i swapped a Ven-X for my Arrow, the SA wasn't out at that time yet.
Still no complaints from me on the Arrow, great performer, just gotta buy low profile Memory =D

5ghz, you may be pushing the cooler to the max at that clock speed/voltages.

I would take Tom Logan's video review with a gigantic iceberg of salt. He was trolling for page views with his unfair slate of the Silver Arrow.

Silver Arrow and D14 basically tied but he kept on finding any excuse to criticize the Silver Arrow. Bias reviewer is biased.

No one is going to be running a D14 at 94 C and say it wins.

Xbit Labs has the SA beating the D14 at 4.4 GHz:
