Ok guys, thanks for your help I only managed to reach as far as 2.8Ghz and that's obviously not enough to justify my effort.

I'll stop here as I am planing to get new cpu/mobo instead.

I really appreciate all the interest and help from everyone and I have learn heaps! Maybe in the future I'll try again... smile.gif

Cheers.

we can not give up just yet....

what are your settings.... the q6600's are supposed to be beasts. and the x48 is a pain but still can do the job...

do a screen shot of:

hw monitor... so we can see temps and voltages
cpu z to see where we are at...

Nah mate, don't worry. Seriously, I used most of my time off in the last 4 days to get no progress. I've seen a lot of people not struggling as much as I did.

Regardless, my wife needs a new pc and this one will suit her needs just fine smile.gif

On the bright side, I have placed an order for a sandy bridge i5 2500K with a nice MSI mobo. Very affordable and performance wise it is excellent. It's very overclockable too but I'm not planning to do anything OC wise just yet, lol.

Thanks once again.

Did you ever try taking out one memstick to see if they hindered your overclock?

Yes dude, I removed the good one, tried with the spare ones I had, ddr3 1333 (2x1gb), then removed the spare ones and tried with the good one alone. Memtested, etc.

I'm sure you probably would make it work if you were here but I had to decide what to do as I am building a system for my wife and she needs it for work soon.

I've read a lot about sandybridge, specially the i5 2500K, great performance! And cheap as!

Quite excited now considering the cost benefit smile.gif

If your wife needed a computer pretty fast then that was probably the best thing you could do smile.gif You had to buy more equipment anyway, so why not. And yes, i5 2500K has a great performance/price ratio smile.gif

Yes, to be honest I was willing to get a dual core with a cheap asus mobo for her and keep my q6600 OC, but after so much struggle I calculated how much more it would cost to get the SB and the difference was just $200. So not a hard decision smile.gif
