They can take the voltage though but just need better cooling, mine happily ran 1.5-1.7v with a water block.

Yeah, but still not worth all the hassle... There is a reason Intel P45 was considered best overclocking chipset for 775 CPU's...

Advantage the X48 has over Intel P45 is 2x 16x PCI-E Lanes VS 2x 8x when Crossfire. But there are very little difference in performance between those...

Your V-core is actually very good for that CPU.

Thread Starter
I've just found out that my GTX570 is too much for my CPU (q6600) to handle...

I am currently waiting for my new mobo/cpu (on my sig), and in the mean time I was playing GTAIV just for fun. Man this GTX570 is amazing!

Well, everything goes well until I start to get my screen busy with cars exploding, a lot of particles, etc. Then my PC locks up (freezes), and I have to reboot.

After 3 times in a roll I thought it could be my GPU. I then ran a google search "gtx570 q6600" and I found out that the q6600 is not only a bottle neck speed wise but also volts wise.

It makes so much sense! Now not only that's true but I am starting to wonder if my computer was crashing during Prime95 because of my GPU. (I think it was).

Regardless I think I made a mistake in buying the GTX570 without making the appropriate research apart from the PCI-E compatibility that manufactures (mobo/gpu) say there is...

I bet if I wanted to try OC all over again it would be much easier...

Maybe then, when I reached a high voltage OC CPU setting I then would install my GTX570 and see how it would go.

In summary, my mistake was to try to do too many different things at once and not separately (this is for anyone else that may try to do something similar to what I did).

On the bright side, if I knew this would've been this way, OC would be out of question and a brand new computer would be the way to go.

Very interesting process this one... I'll definitely have more base and knowledge for future OCs.

I don't think it's as much a bottleneck as people make it out to be, on a 3.6GHz Q6600. That would be saying that everyone with a 3.7-3.8GHz Phenom II X4 is also bottlenecked.

People like to pick on Core 2 but forget that they are still faster-per-clock than AMD. Nobody is in the AMD forum telling them all they need to upgrade to i7...... Think about that.

I built a 3.6GHz Q8300 with a GTX560 Ti OC lately for a family member, it was a very good pairing.

Stay on topic for a start. Most people that feel the need to call someone else a novice are either jerks or insecure, it's not a contest and you're probably never gonna see anyone who disagrees with you in real life so why get mad when someone has disagreed with you in the past? Or if you do get mad, go start another SSD thread, the more the better because sooner or later the mods will get tired of you

Helipilot, I don't think the Q6600 is a bottleneck volts-wise as that doesn't really make sense, it's supplied by different circuitry than the 570 so assuming your PSU can supply both with enough power neither should noticeably affect the other. I've had a 3.6GHz Q6600 with two 470s on my HX1000 with no issues so I'd be surprised if you had issues on a 900W. The locking up is probably just instability but as you're upgrading anyway and your system seems to be fighting your attempts to OC it, there's no point flogging a dead horse, move upwards and onwards Good luck with your new hardware
