Thread Starter
I have the c300 128gb SSD, available space was 119 I installed WIN7 and it shows 14.1gb used couple small folders <1gb yet my space used is 30gb (88gb free)??

Am I just missing something totally obvious??

*posted in SSD but not getting any guesses)

You need to disable hibernation, that uses up like 4Gb

Open up command prompt and type powercfg hibernation off

On top of that, you have your page file, I disabled mine and it's fine. That'll take up another 6gb - 8gb I would have thought.

Got it thanks, I was just about to move onto the SSD optimization thread next...knew it was probably obvious but brain was slow from long day.

iirc the hibernation file actually matches however much memory you have, ie if you have 12GB you will have a 12GB hibernation file and the pagefile is whatever you set it to, or windows managed size.

that is just going from memory though so i could be wrong lol

Nah,

The hibernation file was only like 3Gb on my rig, the killer was the 6Gb page file which I forgot to remove after I rebuilt. I ran it prior to that without a pagefile for 6 months without any issue at all.

yeah i just looked it up, according to a paper on msdn they said "Windows 7 sets the default size of the hibernation file to 75 percent of total physical memory."

which on my 59.5GB array was quite a large chunk lol.
