Could be Anon. Gamers on the underground scene have talks about putting a hit on GeoHot since he started this whole mess. It's getting ugly.

Rumor has it that it was Steam on the ps3 that caused the vulnerability since that opened up a portal if you will for the psn to be hacked.

All this is speculation and hearsay.

People, it is NO ONE. It is maintainence. PSN has been up for 3 years. Do you really think it's too early for maintainence. XBL's first maintainence was 2 weeks long a few years after it started.
Second, the only thing that is down on the PlayStation is PSN. You can still access all its other features. I.E. Netflix, the ****ty browser which I cannot even load the megavideo website to see if the registration is free or not (Current conflict since my PC was stolen).

Story has it that a particular CFW was allowing people to use dummy CC info to steal content from the PSN. Sony is also making sure no personal info (CC #s) was compromised.

I don't think this is the case since Sony officials have been quoted as saying it was some kind of "external intrusion".

My cousin is working as part of the staff working on PSN. He called me up and told me himself and told me that I did not need to keep it a secret. He also told me the server building was receiving surges of power the night it went down. He doesn't know when they will be back on but they are working on it.

We have discovered that between April 17 and April 19, 2011, certain PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user account information was compromised in connection with an illegal and unauthorized intrusion into our network. In response to this intrusion, we have:

While there is no evidence at this time that credit card data was taken, we cannot rule out the possibility. If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, out of an abundance of caution we are advising you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained.
