The hardware is beyond the software already.

I also plan on skipping the 1155 / 2011 / nVidia 6xx 7xx generations all together.

I suppose so, but its still a wonderful board. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

I plan on doing the same thing the rig that i just built should last at least 3 years.

I love it, welcome to the club, we got fun and games.

We have very similar systems, you are going to have to bench with me biggrin.gif Like how I volunteered you for that?

Very nice! Been having a discussion about the efficacy of this on another forum, many people are asking "why?" when sandy bridge is out. And SB-E is due out the end of the year.

Well

a) X58 is still alive and well.
b) it is not the end of the year yet
c) Almost half the cost of this board I would bet is the thunderbolt.
d) not everyone upgrades every 6 months.
e) modders.. My goodness. some ofthem spend 6 months building a PC... Could you imagine how long this setup would last them with a $1000 CPU?

It is not cost effective, but damn it is smexy as hell. Serious serious overkill In my not so humble opinion, but it defintely has its niche.

For those that do not have a $1000 CPU now... in a year or two, when the hexas are going for $400 smile.gif you can upgrade on the cheap and get a nice +50% perf increase. And based on the R3Es hexa clocking capabilities, should be a great clocker as well.

Hey RC... can you use that audio/NIC card in another PC, or like most ASUS addons is it tied to a "specially wired" PCIE slot... (assuming that really means hardware vendor ID licensed software smile.gif )

The Thunderbolt should be 100% compatible with any other board just needs power, and a USB header connected to it from the motherboard.

They plan on selling this card in the near future as a standalone item.

As far as my CPU goes, I don't see how items are obsolete when the software is so far behind the hardware biggrin.gif My cpu will be good till about Windows 9.

Oh that is very nice!

I am all digital now and pass through audio to my receiver on most of my media.

Not tested a Killer NIC yet, TBH I would not know how. I used the MS tool for testing the new intel IC NIC on ASUS boards vs the onbaord realtek and performance was actually slightly worse, although CPU usage was much much less (1% intel 3% realtek) I do not recall is covered latency. Would not matter since it was all on local lan anyway and should be 1ms at best.

If I do get one of these I will post up my review of it though smile.gif
