Nvidia 580 SLI vs. 590 Quad-SLI - Page 5

OP I would get the 580 Lightings and put them under water.

Is water cooling an option? Because it should be.

Gee thanks for restating something I've said since post one, and given op a solution too
also thanks for calling me ATI guy.

Seriously OP, do what Mr. Original here says, (no sarcasm), the benefits are simply too great for the 580.

You can load a few 480 rads and possibly mount your pump externally, then just put tubing through your raven, which I'm sure has a few WC external holes. You'll be fine.

affix it upright with your raven. you'll think of something

and this guy didn't have any problems

right here on OCN, granted he didn't GPU cool
Oh definitely not, I oppose external cooling solutions, only because of the clutter x] My case has the option of mounting a rad to the back, but it looks amazingly tacky, renders the back plate useless, and it's simply not really in my interest.

As for the picture presented, I believe that's a RV02 case, I'm using the RV01.

I saw it before you edited. Just keep with that way, I know what you meant. I just happend to be the guy to post pictures and a post in every page, so being sarcastic wouldn't help ya, you would've seen one of my gargantuan posts (due to the pics). just saying

also thanks for calling me out on the Hardware Haven reviews. You're right, after some through inspection, they do happen to have (I should probably check setups first) cpu bottle necks. I guess it goes to show my ignorance, I blindly believe the benches, not noticing the damn test setup. I always read Tom's, Anands or Gurus test setups, but wehn I saw the frame rates, I sort of ignored what systems they were.

also sorry, I frequently come off as a complete jack arse. I apologize for my rudeness.

Op you just keep making our lives that much harder don't ya?

First with the sabertooth limitation
then with the 120hz limitation

now with the case limitation. What next?

yeesh, mod that sucker, YOu can afford a ton it seems, I'm sure you can afford to mod your on dang case or get a new one. Lightning editions are only good watercooled. If you absolutely must, pick up some After Market coolers such as the ACC extreme with some thermalright mem/vrm cooling units. Thats air based, so it shouldnt matter what you use.

sorry for changing the topic a little, but what about the asus 580 directCU II? As you said you will not watercool them. These are the best air coolers you can get on a card, so far.I know people run it at 20% vent in idle, and under 60% in full load. They are deadly silent, and they overclock well too. However, I don't know if your MB support them.

Yeah I've seen those benchmarks before from ATI people trying to claim the 6970 is the greatest thing since sliced bread, then I show them this:

$365 worth of gpus crushing a $725 dual gpu card tends to keep them moving along.

As for microstutter, in some games it's very annoying and in some it's virtually non existent. One advantage of the two 580s is, in the occasional game where mictrosutter or SLI bugs are an issue, running of one 580 is faster than running of a single GPU in one of your 590s.

In Summery:
The 580s should be quieter, cooler, overclock much better, have less micro stutter, and be more flexible (much easier chance of maxing a newish game that is having sli/microstutter issues with an overclocked 580 than with one 590 GPU). Not to mention, I'm pretty sure there isn't a game out there you can't absolutely destroy with two 580s on a 1080p display.

Edit: Don't worry about 3gb cards. I am actualy very Vram limited with my 3x30 inch monitors, so Vram issues are somthing I have looked into a lot. At 1080p you really won't need more ram than the 580/590 has to offer until you outgrow the card anyway. If you were running a higher resolution it would be different.... but no worries about the 1.5gb cards.
Hmm..

I'm still quite interested in the numbers on how the 580 Lightnings SLI OC & scale in comparison to the 590 SLI's? Would it be ~10-15 fps difference? or more close to ~30-35?

The games I've noticed that really shine with Quad-SLI have been Metro 2033 & BFBC2

They also don't have 18 vrms now do they? the Twin Frozr III is just slightly louder than the DirectCUII.

sorry meant 16
