Hey!

Thread Starter
Hi there! Embarking on my first performance build! Have never built using high end components let alone overclocked. I'm looking forward to having some fun with this.

Have already purchased CPU and Motherboard. Still researching and selecting the rest of the components, so I'll be asking a lot of questions before too long!

AMD Phenom II x6 1090T Black Edition
Biostar TA890FXE

Currently I am leaning very heavily towards the CoolerMaster HAF 932.. Possibly the 922.. It seems the only difference is the size, so any input is appreciated!

I am totally stuck on RAM. I read a whole lot of conflicting reviews. Any guidance would be much appreciated!

Don't bother with the 1090t. The best CPU in that price range at the moment is the Intel i5-2500k.

If you want to stay with AMD then you might be better off getting a 1055t, it's the same chip just with a different default clock. Both chips will overclock to 4GHz.

If you are just going to be gaming then get an x4 chip instead of an x6 chip, like the 955. The x4's perform the same in gaming and are much cheaper.

For an AMD board i recommend the ASUS M4A87TD EVO.

The HAF 932 is a full tower case, and the 922 is a mid tower case. (Full tower is bigger, has more bays, and more room to work.)

I wouldn't bother with the 932 or 922. Coolermaster have released redesigned versions that are a LOT better. They are the HAF-X (full tower) and the HAF 912 (Mid tower).

The HAF X is basically a redesigned 932 and costs nearly the same, i don't know why someone would take the 932 other then the looks.

I'd also go with the 912 instead of the 922 for a midtower case. It's a lot cheaper and actually has more features then a 922, and is also a better build quality.

For RAM just pick a 2x2GB 1600MHz set of G.Skill Ripjaws, Patriot G-Series, Corsair Vengeance or Dominator, etc.

EDIT: Just saw that you said you already bought the CPU/Mobo so nevermind about that part.

Here is the RAM I was looking at [ http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...88614&csid=_21 ] It is the most inexpensive I've found in DDR3 1600mHz Dual Channel.. $105 with $15 MIR for an 8GB kit (2x 4095). Is this a good selection? and will I find any better deal than this?

I'd get a 2x2GB kit of good RAM like G.Skill Ripjaws. Use the money saved from that for other parts.

4GB is enough for any everyday programs/games. You could then buy a second set later on down the line to have 8GB.

Lol, yea. Not gaming, but I do a lot of multitasking and graphics/video editing. Plus I'm not a fan of Intel. It's AMD or bust for me.

I found the HAF 932 for $80. I'm not a fam pf the $200 price tag on the X

Idk If I want to do the 4GB. I had 6 in my old system (Phenom Quad Core) and was constantly using 98%+ memory load..

If you are doing graphics/video editing then the 8GB of RAM would probably be worth it then.

I got a refurbished HAF-X off the Coolermaster store for about $100. If you can get a 932 for $80 then go for it. A full price one is usually a lot more.

Is that from graphics/video editing programs or idle?

On my system on idle is only uses about 800MB of RAM, and when I'm playing games it usually only reaches about 3.8GB.
