New Sandy Bridge build - Silicon Ice™ (Advice needed)

Thread Starter
Hi Overclock.net! Looking to build a brand new PC after owning the current one for 4 years now. Hope to and appreciate all advice on the build below, as this will be my first water-cooling build (so excited!!!! Yippee!!!). Thanks in advance!!

My budget is decent (~S$5000 or US$3500 using a bad exchange rate of US$1:S$1.50 to take shipping into account), but have to factor in exchange rate (I’m from Singapore). Water cooling parts are from a local e-tailer (http://www.edge2o.com). Purpose is hardcore gaming on a 30” LCD with 3D multimedia work as well on an overclocked PC (durr tongue.gif). Hoping I can make something as high-end as my current during its time so that it will last for a couple of years (maybe with upgrades).

Edit : Oh, and I intend to order the parts soon (say in about 2 weeks time) so I can work on it during the summer break (mine's from May to July).

My main dilemma is the CPU/Mobo bundle – Which should I get? Go full enthusiast or go enthusiast with Sandy Bridge?

Seems good but as a first suggestion pick up the lightning series 580s if you're going for water cooling.

Sadly there are no full blocks to the lightning. Yea u will get better oc under water (mcp-80) But its not that much. If u go lightning u should consider ram/mem sinks, the heatplate included is not that good to dissipating heat due to low surface area.
Also i suggest sandybridge really :S. But the bigbang, though amazing in every way, lacks tri-sli. Also uses lucid chip instead on nf200 to accommodate 16x lanes. Dunno if it has more latency than nf200, though with sandy its a bit not important anymore. Go asus M4E, as for gfx get a ref card and get some ek blocks on it. If you r planing to fo multi screen in the future and play surround, well get palit/gainward's 3g version of 580, they also have blocks.

I believe the non refs that handle palits can accommodate the MSI. But if not I know EK will come out with lightning edition blocks soon enough, they usually do!
Otherwise everything you said holds.

If op isn't an audiophile or has a good analog headphone..? Nothing onboard is perfect.

For an audiophile? ONBOARD IS GODS CURSE ON HUMANITY.

I dont think the palit/gainward's block will accommodated the lightning. The pcb is so verry different in everyway. Palit/gainward's ,though on-reference, is close to the ref pcb. Anyway waiting for ek to release a block is not a good way, they might do it and might not.

Op want to go water, so a hafX is definitly a nono.
