CPU IHS scratched, is this normal? - Page 3

My CPU IHS is scratched from all the blocks and coolers I've installed on it as well as the IHS of any CPU I've dealt with. I've always thought nothing of it.

I don't think the type of TIM is that important for temps as long as there is a IHS. The connection between the IHS and core will affect the temps greatly. If connecting the heatsink directly to the core, as we did with Coppermine P3's or AMD Socket A CPU's I think it will matter more

Thanks a lot guys, now I can sleep peacefully!
Still, I'd be happier if 1156/1155 brackets wouldn't have those scratchy bumps :/

I'd highly recommend MX4, I've switched from ol' good AS5 because cleaning and applying (to lesser extent) was a huge pain, cleaning MX4 is a pleasure compared to AS5 (I wonder how bad is it with thick TIMs...).

Eeek, I had IC7 on mine but reseated it with Shin-Etsu when I swapped boards. Fortunately all the text is still on there, only did two mounts with IC.

That's annoying... but as said above, that's why we have TIM. I don't see the scratches like that having anything more than a 1C affect, worst case. Not enough, I think, to lose sleep over.

Would probably affect the warranty, but we OC, so we void warranties already, right?

Hey I noticed this too and was a bit worried. Why would they design the CPU socket to scratch the IHS like that? I mean I guess that tiny part isn't really important since it's just the sides but I guess there's nothing Intel can do to refuse your RMA if they designed the socket like that. Right?
