AM3+ Extra features? - Page 3

So are they saying the new Bulldozer will fit into the white sockets on AM3 boards? I've emailed both Gigabyte and MSI and they say you need the revision of the board with the black socket for this to work. Which one is true?
LOL at the "new features". Great attempt at marketing them for a motherboard upgrade. Some PR c***s had a hand in it. I might not even upgrade my CPU (for lack of actual real-life need), much less if a new motherboard is "recommended".

Somehow interesting the AsRock link. They also attack the Asus father brand when they talk about the other AM3 mobos compatible AM3bull via BIOS updates.

The pin holes must be in relation to the amperage increase and not in relation to the bend pins.We may see on the market ,in the near future ,CPU-s with thicker pins ,who knows.Or maybe Foxconn made them wrong

And the modified brakets are usefull for the stock cooling.A lot of people stay with the stock cooler or use a cooler that mounts on those things.

I also observe the "real" ( "Real AM3+" ) prefix on that table when none of the mobos has the 9xx series chipsets.

Anyway this waiting for the wonder chip is killing me.

The 900 series chipset is not a requirement for Bulldozer to have all the extra features. The board only has to have AM3+ socket, which if it does automatically qualifies it to meet Bulldozer's requirements.

In this case the chipset has nothing to do with the Bulldozer chip. Aside from the SLI support for the 900 series there isn't much that will change from the 800 series. But I do agree that there is no point in getting a 800 series AM3+ when 900 series is so close to being released.

in BD will be new turbo system - it will measure consumption in realtime and maximize usage of the TDP budget. (even under full load all cores can be boosted)

it is very different turbo from sb which eats more power - crosses over TDP budget.

reasons why use AM3+ board : http://www.asrock.com/news/events/2011AM3+/
important slides : 2,3,4,5

like i expected, Dozer in old board can have : stability problems, low OC and performance, higher consumption , etc..

BDozer uses 3,2GHz HyperTransport - that will minimalize communication bottlenecks .
explains why nvidia enables SLI on 900 chipsets
this features are enabled only on 900 chipset series

3,5MHz SVI_bus vs 0,4MHz may look like not important change, but that does mean 8,5x faster voltage regulation feedback.

There's been tests with different HyperTransport speeds and it shows minimal differences. Sort of like how PCI-E x8 is barely slower than x16... but with HyperTransport the difference is even less than the PCI-E lane tests.

I really doubt a 3.2ghz HyperTransport will make that much of a difference right away.

Glad someone noticed lol, and Yeah, Due to the bank holidays of Easter, I won't get my new mobo until the 27th unfortunatly :/

Looking through MSI's feature's of the AM3+ doesn't look too all well good for me..... especially with it's blowing mosfet's.

Besides, I think I'm going to settle down with the Chiv 4 until the 2nd generation of Bulldozer get's released hopefully next year?

Than this mean's we are not using the full bandwith that the x16 slot is capable of giving us right now.

Than it comes to mind..... Why on earth will there be mobo's coming out soon with PCI-e 3.0 slot's coming out for? PCI-E 2.1 is fine for a couple of years I think.

What's wrong with the board you have now? Do you think you'll maybe get another 200Mhz out of a CHIV? Do you think that's worth ~£160? Do you think you'll notice 200mhz in real usage?

The board keeps giving me SATA problems + I'm stuck with a F3J beta BIOS. The chiv seems more overclocking friendly especially with LLC Which my current board doesn't have and AM3+ Compatible
