You could probably put just about any computer fan in water and it will continue to work. Fresh water is not that conductive, and an electric motor is far from sensitive to shorting.
When I was a kid I was into building underwater ROVs, I cant tell you how many times I had my ghetto motor housings leak without me even knowing. They just kept on working like nothing happened, then when id tear them open later they would be filled with water.
Exactly, corrosion will most likely occur over time but the motor will work for many hours while submerged I would imagine.
Op: Leave that fan running with a inch or two more water to submerge the motor and see how long it lasts.
