Thread Starter
I'm maxed out( a little over) on my budget and i just wanted to make sure everythings good before i finally go on and enter the credit card details...

The build is essentially complete in my mind i just want to see peoples suggestions and thoughts on it.

CPU: i5 2500k @ $180
Cooler: CM 212+ @ $30
Mobo: Asus P8P67 Pro-r3 @ $150
Gpu: XFX 6950 1 gb @ $210
Case: HAF 912 @50
PSU: CM gx series 750w (non-modular) @ $50
Ram: G Skill ripjaw series 2x4gb 1600mhz, 1.5v, cl9 @ $75
HD: Samsung spinpoint F3 1tb @ $65

The prices are already factored in with some combo deals and MIR, so the prices i showed are after all is said and done..

Thanks for your help

everything here seems nice. However, i have no idea how reliable that power supply is tbh. Rest is good.

Specs look ok apart from two things, I recommend a better quality of psu, cooler master do not have the best reputation and you dont want to chance any failures with all those new expensive parts go for a corsair unit or simular. The psu is a really important part when choosing the componants for your rig, usually the more expensive units put a "cleaner" flow of electricity into your motherboard and cpu etc, which also helps with overclocking

How far are you planing to overclock the cpu? the cm 212+ is good for 4.5ghz anything over this things start to get hot very quickly so if possible get a better rated cooler like thermalright venomous x or better a thermalright silver arrow or noctua nh-d14

Your gpu can be flashed to a 6970 without to much trouble so it makes sence for you to get the 6950

As for the PSU, what about this one?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139012

Also, my gpu, from what i know, cant be flashed up to a 6970 because im only getting the 1gb version however my resolution is low 1680x1050 so i am almost positive the extra performance from the 6970 wouldnt be worth the extra $$

And for the cpu, getting 4.5Ghz is great for me.. i would actually be VERY satisfied if i could get that because there is no real need for extra speed after that

That psu is perfect.

Your right 4.5ghz is overkill anyway at the moment and will give you plenty of power for years to come

I personally think you should fork out a few extra bucks for the 2Gb version. Sure you might not need it now, but what if you decide to get a bigger monitor? Not sure if you'll even need the power then, but I guess it's really your choice, that was just my thought on it.

The CM 212+ will treat you fine I think. I'm at 4.6 Ghz @ 1.35v and my max temp as been 66c when I ran Prim95 for 24 hours.

I think getting the 2gb also would be a good idea. You might not want to unlock it now, but what if you get a new monitor, or need an upgrade for some other reason. Spending $30 now can basically get you a next level card, which is an awesome deal. Also, a lot of the new games coming out late this year are going to need more than 1gb to max them out. I just bought a 2gb 6950 this week, so that is the thought process that was going through my head.

It's the best upgrade you will ever get for $30. All that being said, sticking with the 1gb won't be bad, it just seems like too good a deal to pass imo.

Besides that once you change the psu like was talked about, it looks damn good. Congrats man!

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! That psu is probably the worst 750w psu you can possibly get. The 12v is not stable and ripples as soon as you go over 50% load. It's really bad don't buy it. There's a thread here on OCN that reviewed the psu and pointed out this fact, let me find it...

EDIT**: Here are some threads that talk about the CM GX psus:

Woww man thanks a lot, you just saved my computer basically... Faulty power supplies are the worst thing! Guess the egg gave me wrong reviews on this PSU, thanks a lot for the clarification.
