Gainward GTX570 Phantom VS GIGABYTE ATI 6950

Thread Starter
Hi, I'm about to purchase a new computer tomorrow but I'm not sure yet which GPU I should get since I don't know muc about ATI.

So far I was thinking to get the GTX570 phantom by gainward
and thought I'd ask you guys if ATI has anything good to offer instead of that.

Main use is for gaming

basically I'd like some information about these 2 cards(and any other ATI you think you should bring to the table because I didn't realy study much the ATIs)

Any comparisson between the cards CRM and VRAM , OC and anything will be welcomed (remember I need it for games if it makes a diff)

Thanks,

Gear mentioned in this thread:

If you play at 1080p, the GTX 570 will be faster than a 6950 even if it's unlocked. 6950 wins at higher than 1080p because of it's 2GB memory.

The 2gb 6950 is pretty close performance wise, however the gtx570 does have better performance in some titles. I would honestly go for which ever is cheaper. They are both beast cards.

If what your looking at is the 1gb model, go with the GTX570.

What resolution do you play at, or will you play at? Or what size monitor are you using if you dont know the resolution.

Edit: Another question that I forgot. Is this computer your purchasing a custom build, or a prebuilt like a Dell, Compaq/HP, or other?

Here is a review for the gainward http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/201...antom-review/1
looks like its better than the 6950 2gb at stock clocks, and the 6970 2gb at higher resolutions in some titles.

the computer is custom built (by my price range )
mobo ASUS p8p67 pro b3
CPU 2500k (hopefully gonna OC to 4.5ghz)
GPU : UNKNOWN :<
8 GB DDR3 1600mhz
monitor : DELL 2311H

resolution to be played : highest as possible without fps lag porbably 1920:1080

so now im tyring to decide wether to go with the gtx570\\6950\\6970 both ATIs 2gb gtx 1.28gb

Which card will give me the best performance (with OC and without)?

The gainward one that you mentioned is better than the stock ATI cards, but thats with a 2.5% factory overclock, not that that amount should make a monumental performance increase.

Ive heard some bad things about the GTX570s and overclocking. If you want to overclock, the 6950 is going to perform better than a GTX570 at stock, or 2.5% increase.

With the 6950 you have a pretty good chance of flashing the firmware to make it a 6970. If you overclock on top of that, you will make up for fact that the 6950 is slower than the gtx570 at stock. I dont know how much of an increase it would be.

if 570 is infact better than the 6950

what about the saphire 6970 with OC?
would that beat the gainward phantom 570 with OC?

According to Newegg.com, the cheapest GTX570 is about $70 more than the cheapest HD6950 2gb model. Personally, I would rather buy the HD6950 knowing that I could possibly unlock it and then overclock it to make up for the performance difference, and bank the $70 dollars I would have spent on the GTX570. But thats just my $.02.

If you want something thats fast and you have no real problem with spending a bit more to get it, with out having to spend time flashing the bios and overclocking, go with the GTX570.

On the monitor you're getting, the 570 will trump the 6970, including after overclocking.

Trump? Are you on drugs? Your formulation skills are extremely poor. Get the 570 and then have **** vrms. Noty. 6970 and 570 are even, 6970 got more VRAM.

Get the 6970 or 6950.
