buy a raid card and load a metric s**t-ton of drives into it, insta server!

Or set one up as a kitchen PC to do things like watch tv while you cook or look up recipes (using our ~2000 dell for it, it gets a ton of use)

Do not throw money into a old S775 P4. Not to mention a OEM motherboard.

good idea except im only 16 so i dont really go into the kitchen to cook, and also dont have enough money to buy a ton of hdd's for it, the case also wouldnt allow me to add many more because the layout and size is pretty bad.

I'd go for the media center - I made a little mediacenter out of my own old Pentium 4 - mine was a socket 478 though.

Ok - they might not be able to run FullHD video on such - but the are much fun.. Install XBMC on it - and If you do have a Android phone (i think iPhone has a version too) then you have a remote for your media center - pretty sweet.

I read that in your first post - but personally I'd go with the other P4 - make a mediacenter - its great, and you can stream tons of video from the net, free and legal

Try google a little and watch vids on youtube - see if you might want to try it out - on the other hand, what do you have to loose?

It runs on linux, MacOS, Windows.. you name it

hey a present for your mom with the kitchen pc then lol

the case problem could be solved by building a few small drive enclosures that hold like 3-4 drives each out of things laying around the house

im running ubuntu 10.10 on mine and it does pretty well as far as running the server. I usually only have 2-3 people connected to mine at a time. I have a 6-8 Mb up usually and my little bro can connect to it just fine.
