I agree with the server/linux suggestions. I modded an old P4 a little to hold a few extra HDDs and set it up as a server.

My server started with a P4 2.66GHz. After I set it up so friend could access files over the web and how useful was I got parts donated like crazy. It now has a SATA card, two green 2TB drives and two gigabit LAN cards. Another plus to the server is with all the important files on the server a OS reinstall on the sig rig is painless.

Search the internet for the mobo model number that will lead you to the manufacturer,

Download the bios for the closest model that fits the bill (revision and layout)

Boot in to dos and back up the original OEM bios and then flash with the original manufacturers model bios and enjoy a little bit of overclocking,

I have done this to a few OEM PC's from HP, Packard Bell, with great success,
