Yeah, I've played Wow, Aion, LotRo, Warhammer, and Star Wars. WoW is the only one that really captivated me, unfortunately it did to the point of ruling my life so I quit about a year ago. If you are looking for an MMO though, WoW is probably your best bet.

Btw, i bet this thread will attract bunch of kids (especially it seems that majority of OCN hates WoW somehow) who would drop by and bash WoW time to time. They've probably never played WoW before but just like to look smart n cool by bashing it. They would probably tell you that WoW will ruin your life blah blah blah.
I still recommend you WoW , pretty fun game if you're into mmo. End-game contents are more fun than lvling stuffs.

I personally have played wow. I use a 30 day pass to try it out. personally I did not like it. it seemed complicated and didn't care fro the cartoony look. but that is just my opinion. ( my bro has been playing wow since it came out and loves it. but now he basically just goes on raids and has been playing other games. )
Everyone has their own preferences. I say try a trial to see if you like it then make a decision if it's worth paying for. that's my 2cents

I already laid out in the Rift thread earlier about all the bad things about WoW so I won't really repeat myself. I played WoW for over 3 years. It was like heroine, fun at the start and hell up until the point I finally quit it.

If you want to "do well" in the game or "have nice stuff" you have to devote a lot of your time into it, and I mean A LOT. If they had a way to get the best possible PvP gear, and max level upon character creation so that everybody is on a level playing field for PvP only, I'd probably play it again. PvP was the only thing that kept me in that game for so long. And I raided in a top 100 US guild for a long time, got burned out yadda yadda.

There just became a point where it wasn't fun anymore. Quitting it was almost as hard as quitting smoking, which I did also.

The reason it's so popular is the the main reason it's not a very fun game when all is said and done. Because there is always something better than whatever you have (gear wise) and gear is all that matters in the game (to an extent). You can't go anywhere or do anything without a gearscore, or whatever players use to segregate each other nowadays.

If you want to go far in that game, or do "well" prepare for it to be a second full time job.

I would say WoW is the equivalent of video poker in a Casino. Lots of bright lights, bells, and whistles that keep the masses pumping the quarters into it over and over again. I played it for about three years. Leveled a hunter to 85, raided a bit, and I got bored. Mechanics are great, social aspects are fun, but after playing for a while, I saw through it and got bored. But it hooked me onto playing MMORPGs so when I quit I had to find something to replace it with.

Don't get me wrong WoW can be fun, but almost too much so. It gets addicting. I'm still tempted to go back to it, but I have to stay strong, lol. So what I did was I fired up Lord of the Rings Online. I love the game. It's free to play so you can get a taste of it for a good long while. There are things you will have to pay for up to a point of leveling, but you can get enough of the game to really see if you like it. I think it's great. I would say it's the methadone to WoWs heroin addiction. Also, the community is much more mature and helpful. Too many WoW idiots just ruining the game. There is a real familial aspect to LotRO that I love. People are great, and I found a great kinship, and I've yet to pay a cent for the game.

I'd say try LotRO and see if you dig it. It's free anyway.
