Help?: ASUS P6X58D-E not seeing 12 GB of ram - Page 2

Thanks. I'm muddling my way through it. I have seen several posts online suggesting a re-seat of the CPU and cooler which I haven't tried yet. I will keep reading and perhaps try tearing apart the machine to re-seat the CPU (ugh!).

Any thoughts on why the hesitation on power-up after I did that CMOS Reset? I think that's pretty odd.

Please read that guide, as it outlines the problem. Every piece of hardware is different and no one can tell you exactly what settings to use.

When this happened to me, the CPU wasn't sitting right in the socket. Try reseating your CPU and don't overtighten the cooler too much. This may fix it. Then try 1.4v QPI/VTT voltage. But every CPU varies, this is why I'm telling you we can't tell you what to do. Every CPU has an optimal ratio between the QPI/VTT and DRAM voltage, like in the guide they give a good example:

My CPU works good with an offset of ~0.22v between ram voltage and qpi/vtt , but yours and everyone elses is probably going to be different.

Some X58 boards just do that. Don't know why. On my DFI UT X58 everytime you clear the CMOS it powers on for a couple seconds, restarts, and then completes POST. Don't know if my R3E does it since I haven't needed to clear the CMOS in forever. Nothing to worry about.
