Currently have 2 gtx 460 sli. Would a single gtx 580 be an improvement? Maybe keep 1 of the 460s for physix?

Your advise would be appreciated

gtx 460 SLI vs gtx 580 I think they have very similar performance wise.

I would just stick with gtx 460 sli set up no point of getting gtx 580 unless you want to spend money for newer tech but gtx 580 it will use less power and run coole if thats what u want?

The only reason to upgrade is to get out of your cards while they are still worth something... I had 5850's in crossfire and sold them for a 570 simply because if I waited much longer the 5850's would not have any resale value.

I'd say the GTX 580 for re-designed architecture running with less power consumption at a greater performance and in turn even less heat dissipation with all 512 core unlocked and working over the GTX 480.

HOWEVER you already have the GTX 460 SLI so stay put until around Nov - Dec and see what the new KEPLAR cards look like. 28nm fabrication to run cooler, less power consumption and more performance per watt than even the 500 series.

It will be a new line so I'm not sure if a 680 will match as many watts of the 580 yet. If it pulls less watts performance may not exceed by that much even on the newer 28nm pcb. So I'd say wait, see how it plays out, then make your decision to upgrade and which route.

I'm hanging back, if the KEPLAR series has issues, then I'm just going to get a second GTX 580 now that the FERMI line has finally matured, which took two generations. I'm thinking the same might happen with the KEPLAR line.

From what I have seen a 460 SLI setup trumps the 580 by 15% or so.. The 460 2WIN is around a 10% improvement at underclocked cores. So I would stick with the 460's for now.
