Well, that's what happens to me too lol. It's worse than getting a bad song stuck in your head.

If you want my opinion though, the most practical way to drown out the sound is by playing music, or turning your fans up. I don't know though, it's pretty common in computer hardware especially if you've got good hearing. I know people who can't hear past certain hz, so they're never affected by it.

the other thing too is... if you don't know what you are about to do... don't do it.

If you don't know where the sound is coming from especially... don't do it. There are no coils on the gtx 560 ti.

where is the whine coming from?

If your card is under warranty, same deal. Don't wreck your warranty needlessly. You are about to build your first rig period at this point... I don't think you should be messing with trying to epoxy your card.

Wow no coils you say, so i guess it's my PSU or the gpu's fan? Oh well, i can deal with it, this sig rig is my brother's but i use 99%. I'll have a rig of my own soon.

I have no doubt the sound is coming from your card... But it might be from a capacitor or something else. It also might just be temporary, and go away on its own after enough use.

Ya i remember my first card only had it in some games, this replacement has it in all..unless they're games from the 90s(diablo II) which i'm assuming is because they barely stress the gpu.

I get coil whine only when the GPU is under load,in BF:BC2 the coil whine can vary in how loud it is,and sometimes even stops for awhile.
In a stress tester/benchmark like Furmark or Heaven benchmark, the "coil whine" is constant.

No coils? What? How does the card work then?

There are coils on every graphics card. They are called the inductors or "chokes." They are likely covered in the grey plastic labeled R30 in the graphics card above.

Solid state chokes are said to reduce high frequency noise. MSI uses these on their Lightning cards iirc.

What are solid state chokes?
My card apparently has "Iron-oxide metal chokes".
