Pyro Dude's guide to painting fans

Fan painting guide:

1. peel back the back sticker
2. VERY VERY carefully remove the plastic snap ring that holds the fan blade/motor assembly from the frame, be ESPECIALLY careful, using a small screwdriver(flat blade) or a razor blade from an X ACTO knife, and COVER it, these LOVE to fly, and if they do, they become LOST quick.
3. place this plastic snap ring in a VERY safe place so it dosnt get lost
4. remove the fan blade/motor magnet assembly from fan frame
5. mask off the motor magnet assembly so it dosnt get paint in it
6. proceed to paint the fan blade assembly, use LIGHT coats, as to not offset the balance of the blades, this could cause bearing failure, especially in high RPM fans
7. wait for it to dry/cure, could take some time
8. un mask the motor magnet, clean and relube the motor shaft, lube the bearing in the fan(dont need to do either if its ball bearing) and reassemble fan blade/magnet motor assembly into frame.
9. VERY VERY CAREFULLY take that plastic snap ring and replace into the back, they also LOVE to fly while going back in, so DO NOT let this happen.
10. replace the rubber plug in the back(if it has one) and the sticker.
11. Fan is ready for work once again! Just dont forget to clean and relube bearings before assembly, or youll have a bearing failure in the very near future.

To paint the fan's frame:
same disassembly procedure.
1. DO NOT try to remove the actual motor winding assembly, it WILL break the fan, they are usually glued in using epoxy or something like that and DO NOT come off.
2. mask off the motor winding assembly compleately so it dosnt get paint on it
3. using thin type masking tape mask off the wires going to the motor(unless you want them painted as well)
4. proceed to paint the motor frame in the colour of your choice, use light coats so you dont get crappy looking runs
5. remove masking tape
6. reassemble fan like I stated above, DO NOT forget to lube bearings, so they dont die and fail and all that stuff.
7. fan is ready for work.

Yeah needs pics to make it look better. Other than that a good introduction would be nice as to why people do this, pics of it looking cool, and more text in general rather than just a straight up 1, 2, 3, 4.

Though, if I was looking to paint my fans I'd want what you have now, for things that I know I'm not going to do I sometimes just really like to read the well-written guide for it.

Yeah, I dont paint my fans, but I have the basic know-how to do it. So thats why I dont have pics, but Ill do a disassembly and masking photoshoot, not going to paint, but there will be pics.
