[Question]2600K Stock Cooling: Max OC?

Thread Starter
Hi guys,

I am not an OC beast like most of you, but I am doing a lot of 1080P and 25MBPS video rendering and I was wondering how high could a 2600K be OCed SAFELY with stock cooling? Even .1 or .2Ghz would make my day.

If you need anything about my rig, it's in my sig.
RAM: 2x 4Gb Kingston Hyper-X 1600Mhz

Thanks,

Lun.

You could reach 4-4.2GHz with a stock cooler safely with at most 1.2V. Thats really mild, like tomato paste mild. 4.2-4.4Ghz with a stock cooler @ 1.3-1.4V, that, that my friend, is salsa verde. I wouldn't go into habanero territory with a stock cooler, get a sombrero or a NH-D14 for habaneros.

Hi,

You think I could reach 3.7-3.8Ghz (W/e Turbo boost) with stock cooling? What voltage would do it? Thanks for the answer.

I think with NH-D14, you can get up to bhut jolokia.

Just see what temps you get with 1.2V and stock clocks. If it passes 80, no go.

If you even just had an S1283 on that thing I see 4.5-4.6 easy.

I'm at 1.2V and I'm at 60C with my CPU FAN at 1066RPM.
You think It's safe? *Noob mode ALWAYS ON*
Edit: With Prime95 running I'm at 70-72C.... Is it ok?

Looking good. Those are perfect temperatures, for stock cooling at least. If you have the time, bump your OC up to 4.1+ and test with Prime. Make sure internal PLL overvoltage is OFF, so that you can use the sleep option.

When you mean "test with Prime", how long does that mean? I'm trying it at 4.1Ghz right now.
After a few minutes I hit 77 to 79C on all cores. I'm taking it do 4.0 just to be safer.
