I want to get a powerful video card but I don't want to waste money if it is not going to use its full potential because of my CPU, what the most powerful Nvidia card I can get that wont be limited by my CPU

Nvidia 560-Ti. I recommend buying the MSI Hawk version, It's excellent.

It would be easier if you told us your budget. I'd say 560Ti since it's really good value and it is quite powerful also. I think 570 would be okay also, depending on game of course.

Edit: You should really consider overclocking your CPU also. Remember to overclock northbridge as well, so you'll get best results. Also fill out the "my system" specs so its easier for us to tell if there will be any other bottlenecks such as PSU smile.gif

GTX 460 for optimal performance with minor bottlenecking issues.

Just grab a 768mb version for around $125 and you'll be good to go.

Thanks all for quick replies biggrin.gif I think i will grab the GTX 465, I currently have a GTX 550 which i was told was faster than a GTX 460...mad.gif I got it for $159 but get this.. the same store has a GTX 465 on sale for $169 and comes with an extra $40 mail in rebate http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0348725 . I think I will exchange the 550 for a 465, and pay the $10 difference. With a 50% chance it may flash to a 470! Good trade?

P.S. Traffic is typically lower in major City's on Sunday right?

Check the for sale section for a used GTX 470, they go for around $180 or less.

I had a single 470 with my Phenom IIs and it performed pretty good, you can't go wrong with a sub $200 card.

If the 465 doesn't unlock they're generally slower than 460s (that can hit 900+ core). Plus they are hotter and louder than 460s.

Edit45: The 550 is slower than the 460.

I would go for the gtx 460 768mb version and never look back, overclock your cpu to 3.6 or higher and get that little 460 up around 900+ and you'll have a great system.

No problem, either grab a DirectCU version or a TFII version if you can find one.

My Core 2 at 4GHz doesn't bottleneck my GeForce GTX 560 Ti, and others with Core 2s around that range say they don't bottleneck their GeForce GTX 570s either. The Phenom II is around par with a Core 2 clock for clock, but it's going to vary depending on the game/situation, so I'd say at least up to GeForce GTX 570 won't bottleneck much, if at all. So, I think you're pretty safe with a GeForce GTX 460 not really bottlenecking on it, depending on the clock speed.
