Interesting... So the Lower VID chips have a reputation for running hotter at higher V-cores VS higher VID chips on the same V-core?

I was using the Thermaltake V1, which was designed for dual core processors. It worked wonders for my E2200. Not so much for my Q9550.

Keep in mind, heat/power increases exponentially as voltage, but still increases linearly as clock speed. And I was >1GHz over the stock clock speed.

Anyway, I'm going to see how high this chip can go while keeping voltage under 1.35V and temps under 80C.

You need a better cooler. The CM Hyper 212+ is cheap and a very good performer.

Also, as I've said, that P5Q Pro will hinder you past 460FSB ~ if you wanna be Large FFT's stable. So 8.5x 460FSB = 3.91GHz.

If going past 460FSB ~ you will need to go insane on the VTT (FSB Term Voltage). You can be game and benching stable at much higher then 460FSB, but Large FFT's is a different story...

I'm sure KingT can verify this

Is the Hyper 212+ better than the H50? And keep in mind I can do a TIM replacement on my H50, since that's probably why my temperatures aren't great. I'm not looking to set records here or anything, just see what this chip can do.

I've set my AC to 65*F and put the ceiling fan on max (to circulate air) to help out a little. I'm going to start by putting multi to its minimum and trying high FSBs to find the right gtl ref voltage.

Ahh... I thought you mentioned the Thermaltake V1....

Well the H50 should be better than Hyper 212+...

No, the V1 was what I had before the H50, which I just installed the other day. wink.gif

Dunno about H50 but my CM Hyper 212 (not + and w/o HDT base) keeps my Q9550 @ 3.9GHz w/ 1.30V (LOAD) in IBT at 70C and in P95 @ 63C at hottest core..

From what I have seen Hyper 212+ does even better job than original 212..

P.S.: P5Q Pro tops out @ ~ 460MHz FSB with a C2Q in P95 Large FFT test (at least 6hrs stable)..

CHEERS..
