Need help setting up my laptop/tv

Thread Starter
Alright, I'm trying to use my toshiba lcd tv for my laptop monitor. I had it working earlier tonight and I changed the resolution at one point and ever since then I CANNOT get it to work again and I'm about to throw the son of a b***h out the window. I changed my resolution settings back to what they were on when everything was working but the tv still tells me 'unsupported video signal'

I'm using the vga(svga?) cable to connect the two. I have my monitor refresh rate set at 60hz and that's the only refresh rate option. In mobility center it detects the tv and it acts the way it should, my screen goes blank because the setting there is to display the signal only on the external monitor(I can't see to change the options back to mirror image because as soon I unplug the tv the external display box disappears.) In display settings I have the resolution for my current monitor to 1280x800 and unattatched to the 2nd display(each time I try to attatch it, it won't ever work). I've tried every single resolution but my tv keeps telling me unsupported video signal.

Someone pleeeeease help me, I'm so frustrated with this thing, I have no clue what to do.

Laptop is an hp dv6000 running vista(I can give more detailed specs if necessary)
tv is a toshiba 32dt1u, the manual says the tv's native resolution is 800x600 for svga but even when I have my computer set on this resolution, it still will not work. I don't know how I had it setup earlier, I plugged in the computer and it just started working properly at resolution 1280x720

depending on the tv, OS, card, and drivers you might need to have the same resolution set to both, and the res being the one on the tele.

For laptops, Their is usually an FN function to scroll between numerous options while connected to an external display. Generally a hd tele is 1360x768 or 1920x1080, so 1280x720 is not ideal as it will be blurry.
