Further, if no benefit for the user can be found, then it must benefit the provider in some aspect or it wouldn't have made it to the final build.

But honestly, I think the view that a stalker has access to your personal computer (i.e. the one you sync you iOS device with) but you are worried about them knowing where you've been recently is asinine.

If that stalker is already in your house, and you're worried about him knowing that you've been to a Starbucks recently, you've either got a big ego or serious mental issues. No one wants to have sex with you against your will in public sweatheart. They do that at a private establishment, like your apartment. At least that's what I...joke.

If some shady hacker type steals my iPhone or hacks my laptop, the last thing I’m worried about is a database that shows where I went last month. I’m far more concerned about passwords, financial information, private e-mails, my list of contacts, information that would enable hardcore identity theft, and so on. Who cares if they know I went to Whole Foods last month or that I entered a Starbucks at 2:36 p.m. last Wednesday?

Or if some shady hacker type steals my iphone i can contact Apple or somebody and they can track my phone for me.

The OP (article) makes a point but the information contained and tracked could definitely be used for malicious means by someone who knows how to use the information to their advantage...
It's about choice as well. We choose to give up certain information. This was not chosen, but forced, which makes it wrong.

Sadly that would mean they have to have then personally id'd the phone in some way which is what they're claiming they don't do (if I understand it correctly). So, I doubt they'll do that just yet.

You may not care that they know that so I guess you may not care in the future that your toilet lid is filled with ads about prostate pills tell you they can help you pee because they know that you can't. Then you go outside and on your way to work get stopped by ads for penis enlargement or free pron because you went to redtube when you meant to go to youtube. And the reason the ads are there in your front lawn is because you didn't care that they know the exact hour you go to work everyday let alone no longer have the right to keep the signs out of you front lawn (or even worse you rent your lawn because you're in need of the income.)

Eh, if it's unlocked (lol) then it would be easier to log in to your facebook / twitter / whatever and then look you up in the phone book.

You may not care until a terrorist or Human trafficker learns your daily pattern and kidnaps your ass and sells you into slavery/sex trade or if you're military/federal government interrogate you..

It happens real life every day no joke.
