Alright Im looking for some help from some of you guys that work in the industry. Im currently A+ certified and basically done with my Net+ cert as well as my windows 7 cert for my MCT.

My question is what do you guys thing would be the best way to proceed are there some certs that I havent looked at yet that would help more than others? Or some things I should study that would help more than others?

Im lookin at some of the Linux certs and wondering if they would help at all. Or if i should look into some of the Windows server certs. I havent worked in the industry at all so im wondering if there are some things that will stand out on a resume more than others?

Thanks in advance for your guys help + rep for anyone who helps

What do you want to do?

Be an admin or developer?

Im not exactly sure yet both aspects seem pretty fun. The admin route seems a bit more feasible and inline with what ive been doing. But developing has always interested me as well uhhh lol I know im getting to the point where i need to decide.

*edit* Im kind of dabbling in all aspects right now till something realy catches me but i would like to have a strong resume for some entry level work in the meantime

If you need a job right now, look for an entry level Admin job. Take whatever you can get; you need some OTJ experience under your belt. If you truly want to get into development, take at look at some of the MCP offerings.

thanks for the link im not sure about development although I think i might at least dabble in it and see how it goes

Also would I really be qualified to do entry level admin work? Alot of places are pretty vague when it comes to qualifications that arnt a bachelors degree. Dont get me wrong id definitely like to do it. I just to be sure I know what im doing when I go in. Any recommendations on what to know for some entry level admin work.

Definitely get some actual work under your belt. The certs are something you should worry about more to fill out your resume and accompany your work history. It doesn't replace them.

As a hiring manager ( on the development side ) a certification, even if highly relevant to the position, doesn't go a long way without some valid work history or an obviously high skill level for the position.

Even if your experience is for a family member, it is better than nothing. Look at internships if there are any available as these are always a really good way to get some experience in a learning environment. Find a project and complete it on your own. You have to get some real experience to really break in, or get really lucky.
