Hi Guys,

I am confused on which one should I select as the better performer in gaming.....

1) Intel i7 - 2600k with Asus Maximus IV Extreme
2) Intel i7 - 950 with Asus Rampage III Extreme

Also please verify your answer with a brief review or a relevant link .....

Thanks Guys,
Dev....

for gaming i'd say you'd be better off with a 2500k and a maximus.... you won't really need ht for gaming...

the second gen i7 are faster clock for clock so i don't see why you would want a 950.

EDIT: i see you already have the 2600k... it's better than the 950

The i7 2600K would be the faster of them... However, If you clocked them at the same speed I doubt you would notice a difference..

2600K FTW since it can overclock much higher...

2600K VS i7 950

If your running 3 to 4 GPUs get a 950 otherwise the 2600k is by far the best choice. Not only is the 2600K better than the 950 it's 2nd generation hardware!

It's also interesting to note that although the P67 chipset has less PCIE lanes it still gives higher scores in benchmarks (With 2x SLI/Xfire) as the 2600k offers better headroom than the 950 seeing as most GPUs available today don't completely saturate 8 lanes of PCIE.

I don't have a link, but i'm pretty sure it was a review by Sin0822 over at Xtremesystems.org who has graphed and benchmarked it.

Ya, I own one 2600k but its seal is not opened ( as I have mot purchased my mobo which probably will be the Maximus according to your choice ), so I wanted to confirm if I have the better product in my possession or not....

Also........ I wanted to ask will the Silver Arrow fit well in the maximus without bothering the DIMM slots nearby ??

then your better off returning it and getting the 2500K. No games use hyper threading so the logical thing to do would be not waste money.

I am going to have the Asus GTX 580 x 2 in SLI..... in this case, is the 2600k the better recommendation ??

Yes it is, although in reality you could get the 950 and still have an awesome gaming experience. But the 2600K is more powerful than the 950 and is where the smart money goes!

The only thing you loose in relation to gaming performance (P67 vs X58) is 20 PCIe lanes 16 vs 36, but the reality is that unless you're running a 3 or 4 GPU configuration you won't see any negative returns. As mentioned above on a 2x SLI/Xfire config it's the opposite.

2600k + 2x GTX 580 is an awesome option and would be the way i spent my money!

It's also worth noting that the P67 PCIe lanes are also running at the maximum speed for the PCIe 2.0 standard.

Ok...... now I understand....... also is it possible to fit the giant silver arrow on the Maximus mobo as I see that the DIMM slots are placed comparatively close to the LGA1155 socket..... will it bother the slots, or it will be just fine..... ??
