The 18-55mm IS is a good, versatile, sharp beginner lens. It's a good lens to start off with.

The 50mm f/1.8 is another good lens, but being a prime takes some time to get used to. What you lose in versatility though you make up for with a large aperture.

Never mind on the craigslist xsi. I found that buying that and the lens separately would be over my budget. I guess I'll go with the XS that comes with a lens. :/

You can find an 18-55mm IS used on POTN for $100. $260 + $10 = $360 for an XSi setup, which is still under the $400 you mentioned earlier, or is your budget something different?

Also, here is an 18-55mm IS. Prices have really gone up; they were $70-$80 two months ago

Hopefully they will still have it next week and I hope the xsi is still there after a week (birthday lol)

And thanks again. You have been so helpful

I bought my T2i(550D) w/ 18-55mm kit lens through CLP. Paid $544. I am loving it so far. Other than getting paranoid for a bit about a quite rattle when shaken, that turns out to be the orientation (ball bearing) sensor.

The CLP is great and offer some great deals! I wish the T2i came with a 18-105mm lens.
