Sub 900 gaming pc

Thread Starter
I would like to build a pc that can play most games on high settings. All I know so far is I would like an i5 2500k and Radeon HD 6950. I would prefer being able to add a second Radeon HD 6950 in the future.

Given my budget, what recommendations would you make for the other parts? There is a microcenter near me and no sales tax from newegg. I won't be able to order until May 2nd since I am currently traveling. I'm mostly looking to get the most bang for my buck, so picking out parts which are on sale and using coupons would be ideal.

You want an i5 2500k, a 6950, and a PSU/Mobo to handle a second 6950?

For under $900?

I can up the budget a bit. I am not planning on buying the second card right now, so the mobo and the psu are the only things that would need to account for that.

I also have an MSDNAA account and don't need to buy Windows.

Thanks. I don't know much about the PSU and mobo. Will 620W be able to run two graphics cards? Also, is that mobo ready for crossfire?

The PSU is essentually a Corsair TX 650 and should be able to handle xfire 6950's.

This is the mobo: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16813130553

The board supports both Crossfire and SLI

Here's what I threw together:

CPU
MB
RAM
PSU
GPU
SSD
HDD

That has an SSD for Windows and select games and a 1TB HDD for everything else. You could easily drop the SSD if you don't need it. This setup comes to ~$950 but if you don't mind rebates, there are $70 to be had there.

edit: ZOMG, forgot a case. Drop the SSD and get any case, I like the CoolerMaster 690 II. That will put you right at your budget.

thanks everyone.

These look good! I'm going to see what kind of deals I can get at microcenter once I get back. They have descent bundle deals and I hope to find one that helps me.

I know this is an intel subforum, but this may be worth asking. Would switching to an AMD cpu and mobo help lower the cost without degrading the performance very much?
