Cant boot with 2 hard drives connect (SSD,HDD) Help Please

Thread Starter
Okay so i just got an Intel 510 series 120gig SSD, and a caviar black 500gig
both are SATA 3(6gb/s)
I installed windows on the sata, and got it running in achi mode
plugged in the 500gig caviar black, windows recognizes it, and i formatted it in disk management. Everything works.

Problem:

When i turn off/ restart the pc, i cant boot into windows, it tells me i need to choose a proper boot device. If i unplug the caviar black, i can boot into windows. Then while windows is running i plug back in the caviar black and windows reads it fine.

Both are plugged in my SATA 3 ports (on my Asus rampage 3 extreme board)
Using SATA 3 cables.

Under Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

Any help/advice would be deeply appreciated.
Thanks

So you installed the HDD AFTER you installed the OS on the SSD?

A lot of people have problems with the Marvell 6Gb/s SATA port.

Unplug all drives except your DVD/CD and your SSD. On Page 3-39 of your manual it shows the boot priority BIOS screen, set to boot off your DVD.

Page 3-26 & 3-27 shows you how to setup your Marvell 9123 controller for AHCI.

Put your Win7 disk into your DVD, save and exit from BIOS. Load Windows.

After Windows is loaded get back into BIOS and change your first boot priority to your SSD, Page 3.39, save and exit, boot into Windows.

Shut down and hook up your other HD. Boot into Windows and format your HD.

If this does not work you can try IDE mode instead of AHCI and then once every thing is working you can change from IDE to AHCI. The first post in this thread tells you how to do it.

http://www.overclock.net/ssd/929553-win-7-ssds-setup-secrets.html

If none of the above works then you may just have one of the R3E boards that the Marvell controller will not work with AHCI.
