Bring in Sandy Bridge into the equation (especially for single threaded apps or apps that utilize 4 or less cores), and

For the tablet part, they would at least generate some revenue from it. In developing the tablet chips, they would have the ability to better develop other low power designs since they would be familiar with similar architecture development.
Phenom II is also comparable to Core i5 and i7. Phenom II does very well for the older Athlon 64 architecture it is based on.
AMD already has their Zacate platform (which is much better than Intel Atom) that can be used in tablets. Perhaps further development into the mobile platform would be good for AMD,they are already good with managing power efficiency with their desktop CPU's and GPU's,producing low power mobile chips would help them even more.

Hire me. For 80K a year, I'll turn things around. First, you can take that excess money you've been paying other CEO's and give it to the other workers. No, not the people at headquarters, I'm talking the lower level employees.

Second, AMD driver team, step up your game or you'll all be standing in the unemployment line.

Third. Engineers. Either design a processor that can not only compete with Intel's but can slaughter it in performance. We'll also keep the price lower, and thus tons of people will buy.

Fourth. Get rid of the cheap plastic CPU socket, dammit. I want something with ZERO moving parts, as well, I want a better layout for aftermarket coolers and WC gear.

Fifth. Mobo mfgs. Either start producing sexy boards like Intel has, or go find another CPU mfg to deal with. We want high end boards. We want boards that cost 350+ bucks that come with every bell and whistle available. I don't care if you have to buy moonrocks to make it happen, do it.

There. Done. AMD back on top, I've made enough money for a year, employees are happy, enigneers and driver people and mobo mfgs take their jobs more seriously... Ah, the good life.

GL with keeping processors cheap when you want them to slaughter Intel, and making boards look good doesn't do anything, instead make them perform better to get higher stable clocks on the CPU.
The AMD cooler mounting layout is actually quite good.
How would you go about making a CPU socket with no moving parts? A CPU that clicks into place, then releases with a small button on the socket?

AND LOL!

Regardless of what you own, that was still fanboyish.

Agreed. AMD has enough to handle with catching up in the CPU market, and keeping a lead with their GPU market.

Tablets are a fad,why should AMD even bother?
AMD could have possibly competed with their 939 socket onward, but after buying ATI they were most likely short on money for a while. It is also possible that Bulldozer is what Phenom II was supposed to be,though due to delays and not enough R&D to produce it quickly enough,AMD had to work with tweaking Phenom I into Phenom II instead.
mark these words tablets are here to stay they are going to explode into a technology that encompasses phones and desktops. the only thing holding them back is time

Tablets are too large and cannot fit into your pocket so they won't replace phones, and tablets will not match the power of a desktop for a long time.
