EVGA gtx 590 power draw? Will I need more power?

Thread Starter
I have tried using some power supply calculators. None of them have the gtx 590 listed in their calculations. My entire build is drawing 900-1050 watts right now, out of the wall. I am using an antec quattro 1200 watt psu.

I have 1x gtx 590 installed right now. I was planning on getting a 2nd one.
So, I am pretty sure I will need more power, but I am wondering how much. My plan is to get a 2nd additional power supply, and run 2 power supplies.

Do you think I could get away with a 600 watt secondary supply? My plan was to connect this extra power supply to the pci-e 8-pin spots on the 2nd card. I don't want to overkill on the extra psu, but I don't want to skimp on it either.

System specs:
Motherboard: EVGA sr-2 dual 1366 socket
CPU: xeon x5660 @ 4ghz (x2)
memory: 12 x 2gb corsair ddr3 1600 6.5v
Hard drives:4x 7200 rpm 1TB HD
GFX card: EVGA gtx 590

The system is cooled with corsair h70s, no custom cooling

2 PSU setups aren't really the best thing to have... What are your other specs? I believe a 1200w psu should be capable. If not, sell, and get a 1500w.

your system lets say is taking 1000w avg. with 85% eff on the psu = 850w. i'd say yes you'll be good but don't overclock it too much.

The build is an sr-2 running 2 x5660 @4ghz, 12 sticks of ram.
I got a kill-a-watt meter and it has peaked at ~1050 watts.
I am trying to plan ahead, since I plan on adding pumps and all that to do water cooling

I'm a little confused as to how you are pulling 1000Watts from the wall, but then you haven't put out any system specs so I suppose that might be why.

A GTX 590 typically pulls about 350W per card from the wall peak under load. So plan to provide ~700W from the wall for your cards, and whatever else you need for the rest of your system on top of that (~700 watts by your calculations). Remember these are from the wall numbers, so if you are eating 1400Watts from the wall that is about 1200 to your system.

A dual PSU system is highly frowned upon most of the time, as different parts see different grounds, and it's just a bit of a hodgepodge. You can get a 1500W PSU and be happy with life. Admittedly it will be expensive, but I imagine any rig eating that much power will be worth the protection.

EDIT: A thought occurs, the TPQ is a pretty solid unit, if you aren't going to be running all of your CPU and GPU at full load all of the time, it's possible to run your system on it, and add a second small PSU for less critical components like water cooling or whatever else it is, that wouldn't necessarily require such tight sync of power with other components.

You should be fine for adding another GTX 590.
