The original Phenoms WERE pretty bad, but that's still a good deal for $230. No, you will absolutely not be able to make a better build for close. $300 for new parts will net less performance.

Buy it
Spend your next cash savings on a decent Athlon II CPU. Perhaps maybe GPU upgrade depending on your needs. Resell the Phenom 9850. You still win for about $300 or less.

why would you assume bootleg? I was running a PC repair bussiness, and also buying computers and software to resell. XP Pro Gold was on the market for sometime actully lol. I got it with an Athlon 700 computer I bought off a guy for 30 bucks 2 years ago. It was then slipstreamed with SP3 using XP-Lite. This is all very basic information that anyone can do, so dont assume something is something else without the facts.
