Help me decide. c300 vs c400. - Page 2

C400 should have higher transfer rates.
Both drives are rated at 72 TB of write life (although the C300 was stated to be more conservatively rated).

Three options:

1) Buy C300 now and don't wait. Enjoy performance for the next few years
2) Wait for C400 to launch and buy that. Will have a little bit faster transfer times than C300.
3) Wait for C400 to launch and buy C300 due to price drops. Performance will still be AMAZING compared to a mechanical drive.

Also, are you really going to trust a link with a huge Intel logo in the background? You realize they just launched a competing product, right?

If you really think the c300 will have a huge price drop when c400 releases then think again - probably $10 - $15 at most.

I'm sure with firmware updates it will get faster.

Random read speed is only one of several factors.
that one of several factors is probably one of the most important factor. opening video files, pictures, programs, apps. snappiness of your window...

With the 256GB C300 costing $400-$480 depending on where you look, I would say the C400 for $460 isn't a bad deal.

Oh and if you are interested in the Vertex 3's controller but want to avoid OCZ, some other companies should be coming out with Sandforce 2000 based SSDs soon.

If other companies might be using sf for their drives, I might just wait for that. But what sata3 controller card should I use for them?

The best SATA 6GB/s controllers are native Intel controllers that appear on P67 motherboards IMHO. Better speeds + TRIM support.

For older mobos, use once again Intel SATA 3GB/s controllers. Slightly lower speed but most importantly TRIM support!

SB 850 does a really good job at SATA 6 as well.

The C300 has the older/larger/longer lasting(?) die size if you're into the longevity "thing". smile.gif

I bought my last 256GB for 400.00 from Ebay but I have seen a few new drives go for a little lower.

Intel didn't drop their prices after a new generation came out and I doubt Crucial will do it either.

I haven't seen any SATA6 Gb/s expansion cards under 150.00 that are faster than an Intel ICH10 SATAII or the Sandy Bridge 6Gb/s ports.

Thanks everyone. I guess I'll be waiting for more SB drives to be released before I make my final decision. If not, I will get the c400, if the c300 and 400 are not too far apart in price. Ill just use the onboard chipset and use sataII for now.
