Hit a wall, can't reach 4ghz [Phenom 955] - Page 2

Have you tried just using multi? I have mine set at 21x200 (4.2Ghz @ 1.44v). See if you can get it with 20x multi.
Does your board have vrm heat sink's as if not that might be holding you back, they might be getting to hot.

Reset youre Coolermaster with some new paste, sometimes 4ghz need 1.5vcore or even higher....the chip scales with cold,so proper cooling is needed if you want a stable overclock..

I have a MST-88 on the way from FrozenCPU that i ordered about 2 weeks ago so hopefully that will help. I did try using multi, but i didn't experiment much with voltage with the multi. Also, multis aren't as effective as bus speed overclocks.

A C3 955 should do 4GHz on air. The 955 often overclock better than the 965's.

I would try taking out all but one stick of Ram and see if you can get it stable then.

Using just the multi to overclock is as effective or more effective when just CPU overclocking.

Its just maths. But when you turn up the FSB it adjusts other things which could cause more heat. Pure multi overclockings the way for easy overclocks. The only reason you should need to up the multi is if you need to overclock your Ram.

heat is your problem is say. mine was having trouble with heat past 4ghz (old x2 i had) i managed 4.2-4.4 if i remember right. all i did was put it up on a window during winter and i did those speeds at the same vcore. so you might need a new hsf to reach your goal

It is not Bull****. I had a 965 C3 that will not hit 4.0ghz on air. Not all cpu are made equal.

Chips from certain codes (e.g. 955) and revisions are created equally, because each revision comes off the same wafer and each assigned their codes based on quality. So unless there are errors upon inspection (I would assume the inspectors to be Mexican aliens :joke: ) they are all more or less equal.

Than you are wrong sir when it comes to ocing. They are design and inspect to run at stock speed. They don't inspect the cpu on ocing ability. This is why I said not all cpu are made equal.

NB: I can't go over 1.470 vCore because of high temperatures.

Please can anyone offer information as to why i am getting bluescreens. Also can somebody explain the effects of HT link Multiplier and NB (IMC) Multiplier

I am losing patience ;_;
It takes 1.5370 volts to get my 955 to 4.0, and im using a Cm 212+ also so try that.

2000mhz is the sweet spot (even 1800 won't affect nothing at all)

NB Frequency has to be around 2600-2800mhz to help stablize the overclock more_ Its strange but I found out that with a higher NB Frequency I was able to acquire a much better stable overclock than with 2000mhz NB Frequency, *& the plus side is that raising the NB Frequency increases performance tremendously_

Most people can do NB Frequency of 2600-2800 with 1.25-1.35volts

I/E I can do 2800 with just 1.256volts CPU/NB Voltage

I know thats not much information, but I hope it helps
All of this ^^

Plus you NB volts (not to be confused with CPU-NB volts) can be raised. Many AMD overclocks have been stabilized with + 0.1v on the NB and the CPU-NB tweaking mentioned above. Keep you HT link at or below 2000. Mine ends up closer to 1900 with my OC range, and that's better than being over 2000 for performance and stability.
