Hit a wall, can't reach 4ghz [Phenom 955] - Page 5

Not true about the 55c error thing, can't speak for 60c my cpu has never hit that.[/QUOTE]

Agreed. My chip has seen 62c for brief periods, and AMD themselves say that their chips can withstand 62c. Given that most manufacturers allow for a bit of leeway for error when setting these limitations to avoid embarrassment, i would assume that temperatures as high as 65c would have been seen before without direct adverse effects.

I've seen posts by AMD reps (I'll try to see if I can find it) that these chips don't really degrade for quite some temps past that.)

You need some light reading i think...this is just a small selection of posts, you want more?
Have you read those links? It says that the guy was hitting 76c with no errors...

Not that I am recommending that as a good temperature to run it at.

Shows how different everyone's cpus are, they really are not equal. Stock cooler I could not even boot at 3.8/1.4, now that is perfectly stable just by putting a new cooler on.

1 guy is the exception, not the norm. i have read these links and stand by what i say. 55c is when errors start to develop, just cos it doesnt happen to you does not mean it does not happen.

Hopefully you know your way around your BIOS and some common abbreviations.
Like...
LLC - Load Line Calibration
HT Ref - HyperTranport Reference Clock, sorta like a FSB and refereed to as such occasionally as it acts in the same way.
vDIMM|vCore|vCPU/NB etc. - Just abbreviations for voltage, ie vCore=CPU core voltage.

Anything else in the guide needs no explanation, or is self explanatory, if in your case this statement is false, post and ask questions!

Note on temp maximums: To overclock a 1055T successfully, you need cooling first! Stock won't net you much because with AMD's fab process temps over 55C and you hit the "temperature wall" your system WILL destabilize and falter under load!

Now for the overclocking!

Edited quote. I rest my case. All this is applicable to other AMD procs, not just x6's

It's possible that it just won't do 4Ghz without really good cooling, my chip is like that. Even with 1.56V on my old cooler i couldn't get 4Ghz stable no matter what I did. Now with my WC setup it required 1.54V and temps < 50°C.
