Thanks for the help guys, im currently working on it.
I made a back up copy of my disk incase this doesnt work
But so far i ended up getting a full copy of OSX snow leopard (10.6.3) at my bookstore, i originally tried installing it directly out of the drive, but it has crashed twice so far.
At the moment i hooked up the hard drive to my macbook air and using disk utility to format and now seeing if it will install onto the 80gb hdd i have for my old macbook.
Edit: fresh install didnt work, currently doing a complete system restore with new partitions.. hopefully macbook dont freeze on that

Yes the Snow Leopard disk will 100% work. You only have to worry about if you have the newest MacBook(Pro) and they haven't slipstreamed the new updates into the retail DVD. It's at 10.6.3 right now and your mac book is older.
