Umm, turn your fans up all the way while stress testing!
Turning the pumps up may not help much, but is worth a try.

Perhaps I should wait a for a while to see if as5 cures still.

I had to lap the block, it had a nasty scratch on it. I won it on ebay, with some of the other gear I use now, so I didn't scratch it.

I have to gain some experience, so I gonna check my temps for a while and see if the as5 is still curing or some other fluke straightens itself out.

This is my first watercooling setup, and now I gonna jump on overclocking my 5870

edit : I have reread the thread, and 60c@4.2GHz (HT?), then I should perhaps relap the cpu block if I don't see some drastic improvements.

This forum rocks!

You have to remember that your block is a few years old and won't deliver the same performance as a current one e.g. a 2-3 year old Aquacomputer Cuplex di on my main system results in CPU temps about 5-6ºC hotter than with an Aquacomputer Kryos XT. Lapping it properly could give you maybe a couple of degrees better cooling.

Also AS5 is quite old now and has been easily surpassed by better TIMs. You should be able to shave a degree or so by switching to MX-2 or better. I'm currently using Cool Laboratory Liquid Pro which gives me around 3ºC better temps than with MX-2 however it's a pain to remove although after a lot of practice I can do it quite quickly. Cool Lab Liquid Ultra is supposed to deliver similar results but is a lot easier to clean off. I recently tried out the Prolimatech PK-1 that came with my Kryos and was pleasantly surprised to find it's very close to CLLP. I'll probably start using that on my other systems in future.

I don't think you've mentioned the fans you're using but changing to something like the Scythe Gentle Typhoons 1450 or 1850 could help shave a degree or 2 off.

With my main system (below) it's taken me quite a few months and a lot of money to shave about 7ºC from the temps I was getting when I first built it. I don't bother to try and cut temps with my other systems but use this one as my 'test bed'.

I get Prime95 load temps of 56ºC in a 20ºC ambient with HT on (graphics cards idle) but it's taken a lot of time and money to get it to that. It's a hobby though and it's been a fun learning curve.

EDIT: I forgot to add that Skinnees Labs is a great place to go for accurate data on various components http://skinneelabs.com/ Just about everything I've learnt I've got from there (plus all my own **** ups).

I still say it to do with the mounting of the block.

Perhaps theres maybe a washer missing from the mounting kit and the correct mounting pressure is not being applied?

With that rad and fans on full and your ambients id be looking for max of 72-73 with the volts and OC your running.

Just out of interest, what does your 5870 idle at when default?

I'm getting Artic Silver MX-4 soon, that is better than as5 as well?

I actually have 2x gt 1850 and 1x 1450, which I purchased to something else, which I don't use now. So those fans are available.

The Case is a Cooler Master Atcs 840, which has a 120mm fan intake at the bottom and one in the rear which is unused. Front intake is the 230mm stock fan.

Through a EK CoolStream RAD XTC (420) 3x140mm radiator, I have 2x 230mm fans in pull (case stock fans), with a shroud that I made myself encompassing the radiator up to the fans

Yeah, I have to messed up with the mounting, I will get on it soon. I might have over tighten it also, so I have to remount.

Or shall I rather wait till the MX-4 arrives, drain the system and put it on the memory chips of the 5870 and the cpu core at the same time?

I may also have some too old dye mixed into the system, which was part of the auction from ebay. I want uv dye, but I want mayhems blue uv preferable, which is not in stock.

Shin Etsu 778.

Post a pic of your system. Stay away from dyes, they will clog your system leading to bad temps, doh! Hmm...

I have to cook some dinner, and I will try to find my camera and take some pics.

I'm not done yet building the case, but you can see how far I have come

I didn't find my camera, so I had to use my sucky phone

I only took some fast pictures, since I get no good pictures out of this phone.

It is not the intended colour for the dye, and some stuff needs to get built and waiting for stuff to arrive in the mail, so somewhat far from finished.

Also, have you checked that you've got your inlet and outlet on your CPU block the right way around?
