I don't think anyone was necessarily assuming that such a capability never reached the BIOS. At least, I don't remember reading such a post. However, this is unique to this UEFI implementation. That's not to say that it would be difficult to add such functionality to the UEFI options from other manufacturers. I'm almost wondering what differences separate them all. I mean, if the technology is supposed to be platform independent, unlike the BIOS that only runs on the x86 architecture, then is it possible to port UEFIs somehow?
