Is EK backplate really necessary? - Page 2

If you get an Aquacomputer aquagraFX block for your GTX570/580, you won't have to mess with annoying spacers, will get better GPU cooling, and it comes with a backplate for the VRM area to improve cooling of that part of the card.

An aquagrafx backplate for the 580/570 cards?

I am buying two of these blocks and see no backplate.

I think you're thinking of the GTX 480 blocks.

if you have the money, I would suggest getting it...it really looks nice! If you're limited on funds then for sure skip it.

Check out my build log to see what it looks like on the system.

I think things look "naked" without

Get some really good Torx drivers. I stripped one of mine on my 570s and had to drill it out. Nerve wrecking experience.

Yes, I can't stress enough how important it is to be careful with the card's screws. One of my screws were already pretty mcuh stripped...I had to drill it out as well

Backplate has no real purpose, maybe 1-2 C improvement, functionality-wise.

Aesthetically, though, it's the sexiest part of any WC setup.

I was just basing it off the listing for the block on Aquatuning's web site, but after looking into it some more, it seems they are not correct.

Ah, Aquatuning, explains everything. lol

Back plates for the 580 blocks would look nice but unfortunately AC have no plans to make them as they're not required by the card as the 480 did.

It's a shame, they're worth it just for the aesthetic value but then again it adds another 50 or 60 dollars, (if running SLI), to an already fairly expensive exercise.

Backplate not only looks nice but also prevent the card from bending. My card was scary bent when I had it without backplate.
